I heard the first MDA A/C an EMB 170 has arrived in Pit and is safely tucked away in the old AI hangar. Talked two a few people who breached the hangar to view the A/C and they said it was very nice. Not quite as big as a F100. Another person who has been laid off for some time was called for a MDA mechanic job. Pay was $11.01/hr plus license premiums!!! A joke!!! Cannot wait to see the rest of the pay scales.

That translates to...

$!,760 gross pay per month without premiums for an experinced mechanic?...you have got to be kidding?

With all the safety risks that has your license on the line.....it's insane...they're insane.

Did you know that Sheez (the gas station) in Pittsburgh pays their counter folks starting pay $9.60 per hour.

What is wrong with this picture?

PITbull,

Maybe Bronner and Dave will buy into the gas station next? Then they can ruin that meager paying gig for someone else too?

The 170 in PIT is not US Airways Aircraft. It is painted in Embraer colors and was there to introduce itself to the company. They mated it to the jetways and did several other evaluations.

I am told MDA does not pay benefits until you have been there six months and then it is very expensive.

algflyr,
I was in Pit today and saw the aircraft myself. It does have the USAIRWAYS paint job, it is a beautiful A/C, and there were 2 of them. Since when does Embaer paint it's a/c's with the US color scheme and US logo, if it was a fake they sure fooled me. They both could have been mistaken for a 319 at first glance. But, after looking at them for a minute, you then realize it is just a little bit smaller.(but not by much) :p

xoxo,

Well I hate to break it to you, but you were looking at an airbus. Two of them I guess. I can tell you 100% that there is only one EMB-170 aircraft in PIT, and it is NOT in airways colors. There are a lot of people in the hanger right now giving her a once over, I'm sure some of them will post here. Nice try though...guess you were fooled by a fake.

The EMB-170 is not certified as of yet, target date for initial certification is still November. Sadly, an aircraft during test flying landed gear up. Oooooops. This shouldn't delay certification.

All aircraft during development go through various airfield mating tests, such as gate compatibility.

Should be a very nice aircraft, sadly to be flown by underpaid pilots and flight attendants.

I have a quesiont or comment how ever you want to take it. With the new RJ/SJ's that are coming, will they have the words "USAIRWAYS EXPRESS" painted on the side? My thinking is that regardless of the size of the airplane, using the word Express gives the aircraft an automatic negative connotation with the customer right out of the starting gate. Wouldn't it be better to just have the USAIRWAYS name on it and then a plaquard by the door that says operated by Mid-Atlantic Airways? If the day ever comes that we get 90 seat "express" airplanes, would you still want the name express on the side of it. It is nearly the same size as the F-100 or DC-9 and they didnt' say express on the side. Heck, the F28's seated 64 people and didn't say express on the side.

By placing the word express on the side of the airplane, aren't we already influecing the customer perception of the airplane/flight even before they ride on it? Is there some FAR that says that if the flight is not operated by mainline that it has to have the express name on the side? Just curious.

Is this wahat your looking for

MAA aircraft will be painted USAIRWAYS and not express. At least thats what we have been told several times.

Yeah, we were discussing this a couple of months ago... as far as anyone knows it will be branded US Airways. After all, theres nothing even remotely "commuter" about that plane, its an airliner. Its only referred to as an RJ or as an Express carrier when talking to employees in an effort to justify the chicken feed wages. Just because its made by Embraer doesnt make it an RJ. If you order buffalo wings from Dominos you dont call them pizzas. But I digress. <_<

PITbull, do you know what the duration of MDA/AmericanEagleafewyearsago's contract is? Hopefully not too long....

Also, does anyone know if the plane is still in PIT and if so how long it will be there?

And finally does anyone know when the interest letters will be sent out and if they will go to EVERY FF/a or just the more senior furlougheds? Does anyone know ANYTHING about this airline thats supposed to start up in less than two months? I'm beginning to question MidAtlantics very existence. Perhaps they have already started up and are flying invisible planes like Wonder Woman.

If you are referring to the MAA contract and when it will become amendable, it runs along ours which is 2009. There had been a new contract for American Eagle subsequent to our ratification, but the MAA people will not get that.

I also heard that the reason for the delay in MAA is that the company is having a problem with the "flying certification" license. I thought it was under mainline, but I am hearing there is some kind of "glitche".

Thanks PIT. How are they getting away with not using Eagles current contract? Not that its that much better...

Because it is not American Eagle. Mid-Atlatic is a separate Division and part of U mainline. It just so happened that Jerry G. was in such a hurry in the winter to jam something down the f/as throats that under liquidaton threat he knew the majority would sign...so he chose the worst in the airline system.

Improvements to that language will be at the amendable date of December 31, 2008.

PS: That is why a strike fund is important now more than anytime in history. So, get prepared early.
