Alaska buys Hawaiian

Can't say I saw this one coming, but it's probably one of the few domestic mergers left that would have little to no antitrust concerns.

I agree with the lower antitrust concerns, however, it is the Biden admin we are talking about.
Still thinking SWA should make a move for Frontier again. Maybe, IF it were to happen, the Frontier Pilots will be a little less demanding this time around.

Pretty sure they've found routes where markets that are hard to penetrate by others, i.e. niche market operator. Glad to see them going big. Pretty sure employees will gain bigger benefit from hotels discounts to codeshare flights to premium destinations. Based on their last merger with Virgin America, would see them gaining only the best scope of items from each others contract. It wouldn't take them long to be considered the industry leading pay and scope. Keyword "scope", spelled it out for that moron on here who keeps posting about SW.

My personal guess Hawaiian is struggling with inte-risland competition from market leechers like Southwest. Both Alaska and Hawaiian, is almost 100 years old company each respectively. They know how to treat the people they serve and their employees right. Once acquisition is complete, they will give Southwest a run for their money, utilizing Horizon's EMB-175 and Alaska's 737 to fly interisland and fill capacity when needed. They'll offer a competitive choice from Southwest's outdated 1960s interior with no charging options, free for all every man and woman for himself boarding vs civilized boarding protocols. In other words they'll kick SW out of the Hawaiian market. Even Hawaiians hate Southwest. The company's method of operation is to dilute the market share of a certain region and once competition leaves, they jack up the price for crappy 1960s style, and free for all ghetto ass boarding process. No THX. That method might work back then, but welcome to the modern era, no one wants ghetto style boarding low cost crap shoot anymore for the same price as a premium flight.

The only competitive advantage SW has is free checked back, but with Alaska operating over there, its the same deal same price as long as you got a loyalty card, you earn points and same free check back and seating choice. Vs Ghetto ass board, free for all, no inflight or charging ports. I think the reasoning behind this merger is clear. Kick SW out of Hawaii, so they can go back to Texas and keep degrading their customers. Visual proof is out there, most of the airport they operate are second tier ghettos.

This is a thread about Alaska and Hawaiian merger not about SWA. stop making everything about SW, go drink that kool-aid somewhere else,

no one cares about SW! Didn't you watch that SNL sketch? A national embarrassment and a disgrace of an airline.
"And you bought a Southwest ticket?!"
They should make a second part to the sketch, about the dumb ass aircraft mechanics that work there. And the sketch should go something like this...

A narcissist who thinks hes the best of the best, while others in the same industry can see the obvious delusional psychopath. Goes on forums to post about how great of a place he works, while the industry knows better. Meanwhile, Southwest pilots starts the same thread and talks about how crappy their work conditions is with the same thread title. lol

Oh wait thats happening in real time. No need for a sketch.

It'll be interesting to see what Alaska does with the Hawaiian fleet - They just recently finished phasing out the Virgin Airbus's and now they're picking up A330's, more A321's, and a few B717's - Plus Hawaiian had orders for B787's they were supposed enter service next year.

Will they still try to remain "all Boeing"?

It’s a bloodbath.
Yes, it is Kevin. Southwest wants to grow market share in and to and from Hawaii as fast as possible, as most of you already know. Which is why I wonder how involved SWA will get into this newly mentioned proposed airline merger/acquisition/purchase, however they will want title it. The biggest thing slowing growth everywhere for SWA is Boeing not supplying enough aircraft fast enough, which makes me wonder if they won't jump in on some sort of airline acquisition as well to get more aircraft to put into service and grow quickly. Time will tell.

Now it appears the media is starting to get a little softer on the Airlines merging. Both mergers with Alaska/Hawaiin & JetBlue/Spirit. Seems now they are posting the positives of the mergers instead of the usual negativity of the mergers. A little interesting flip flop by some.

AS isn’t planning on merging the two companies, they will still operate as two different airlines.

Yea. Keeping the name around would be a good idea. Hawaiian folks will not like seeing their home town airline go away as far as name sake.

In 18 months it will merge into one and one name. Hawaiian folks prefer to fly Alaska over Southwest. The rest of the folks in the good ole usa will never support a communist airline. Thats why its on the news to remind folks not to fly Southwest, aka the grinch that stole Christmas.

In the mean time, we can go back to this thread in 18 months and laugh at how stupid your post is. And you represent southwest mechanics. What a loser.

Now that the other merger was blocked and now getting appealed, it'll be interesting how they approach the ALK/Hawaiian merger.
Only wish SWA could have bought Hawaiian to get the planes, routes as well as flight crews. They would luv to grab a big uptick in the Hawaiian market share quickly.

It’s a total different situation.

Do you ever research or think before you post?

AS isn’t eliminating HA, nor are they merging it into AS.

HA will operate separate from AS and it will be owned by AS. But still operate as HA.
