A mock-up of the aux pump wiring harness is being built in Tulsa. Has anyone heard of possible hearings over the MD-80 groundings?

It has been learned that Mr. Romano will be going to Washington D.C. on Monday. He has two mock-ups of the wiring bundle, one that is as strict to the AD as possible (if that's possible), and one with good sound judgement (just not perfect). I suppose it will be before some sort of hearing. Should be interesting.

Can't wait to see his lapdog Burchette reaching into his pocket on CSPAN.

Mary Peters (Transportation Secretary) has given the FAA and AA 14 days to explain themselves. “We will get to bottom of why it was that hundreds of thousands of travelers had vacations canceled and business trips rescheduled last weekâ€￾. Even though exibit A and exibit B will be compelling evidence I doubt the FAA, who ordered the grounding, will be found at fault.

<_< ------- That's my question! Did, in fact, FAA order the grounding of the MD80's? I was under the understanding AA did it! Or was it one of those: "ether you do it, or we will" type of things?!!

If so, it definitely sounds better that AA 'voluntarily' grounded themselves rather than the FAA gounding them. AA must have really p.o.ed the FAA for it to have escalated to this. I can't believe there was ever any safety issue. After all, said sparking has never occured in all these years of the 80s; and that is a lot of years! And if it were really perceived as such a safety threat they would never have given them 2 years to comply.

I read in a company news release that American had offered an alternative plan in dealing with the MD-80 AD. The plan was to have the AD done on all MD-80's in a quick and timely manner with minimal disruption in service. The F.A.A. denied the request, so you figure out if American voluntarily grounded the fleet or had no choice but to ground the fleet with no way out of it.
