Will US go after Maxjet's 767ers?

The company, which operated all business class flights from London to New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, said its board had authorised it to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States, as tough market conditions had precluded any further fund-raising.

MAXjet said the filing for bankruptcy protection will enable it to "conduct an orderly liquidation of assets."

I believe four out of their five 767s are -200 ERs.

Easy way to pick up some widebody lift.

those 767's can travel long distances without stopping, IE could even go transcon if needed. They are proven, reliable long lasting aircraft.

With all that being said, this crack management team would never get them.

Why should they, there are 321's out there that cant make it across the US. Dont forget about the A350 that might some day grace our skies. It will be a 30 year and counting newer design. Heck it might even slightly outperform the the 767.

there are only 2 motors for the 767 and I believe that MaxJet and US have the Pratts. Could be different ratings though. PIT MX could easily hang diff motors on there though.

But what we're forgetting to realize is that the MaxJet configurations are "too nice" for us and Tempe wouldn't spend they money to configure the planes properly.....

Um no, US has GE CF-6 Engines all the 767s, Maxjet has some with GE and some with PW.

As matter of fact US had the longest on wing CF-6 on a 767 ever without having to be removed for maintenance.

I've been told that the Maxjet planes are verrrry old and the exteriors and interiors are merely lipstick on the pig.

But I wouldn't be surprised if mgt isn't looking for aircraft to upgauge in PHX.

Was that the one that destroyed itself on the wing (and on the ramp)? Was it trying to remove itself?

No that was not the one on A/C 654 which had an uncontained failure during an engine run up to troubleshoot an ongoing oil leak.

One of several reasons Maxjet failed was much higher than expected MTC problems and related expenses and this is in part to the ages of their 762 fleet. I just did a little research on Maxjet's older 5 aircraft fleet. The first three acquired and only aircraft for most of thier existance where C/N's 81, 125 and 131, built in 1984 (81) and the other two in 1986. For comparison, US's oldest two 767's where delivered to Piedmont in 1987. The other two "newer" Maxjet aircraft acquired in 2007, C/N's 208 and 214 where delivered to Air Mauritious new in 1988, still older than over half of US's 767 fleet. So while I don't see anything wrong with US acquiring a limited number of used aircraft of a reasonable age, such as the 3 former ATA 757's (all 3 built in 2000) and the two Swiss A-330's coming in 2009, I don't think even Tempe would want birds this old, and with a reputation of recent MTC problems.

While fleet age may have been an issue, I think most of the damage to Maxjet was the start of AA's JFK-London Stansted service.

MaxJet Two 767ERs:
