Why not Hawaii?

It is my understanding the 767er had proving runs to HNL but that was the other airline.
I think when U came along they put an end to it.
If i'm not mistaken the 767 could fly non-stop from PHL or CLT to HNL.

Has US ever thought about serving HNL? Even seasonal service would be a grand opportunity, esp since serving a ton of Caribbean destinations.

With DL reinstating ATL-HNL service (they are actually upping to 2 daily over the winter), one would think that this would be a winner. However, since it makes sense, the troop at Fort Fumble would likely claim it's a low yield route, and shy away. Besides, HNL is UA territory--and perhaps they don't want to compete directly with UA.

I also believe CO has a daily nonstop EWR-HNL, operated by the 767-400ER.

I know some of the costs are higher, but would the A330-300 make the trip? Perhaps PHL-LAX-HNL?

One can dream can't one?

I am sure that this outfit views HNL as the "Florida market of the West" Low yeild and too much competition for us to handle...just let the competition have those passengers too.

The proving run was flown after the merger it went CLT-LAX-HNL, with Schoefield and his cronies onboard.

Lav Man you are wrong.I was the etops qualified mechanic on that flight. It took place in 1990 a/c 654US.
Scofield was not on that flight. There were VPs from
Inflight, Maintenance and the Flight Department. Not to mention the FAA.This was the 180 minute extension proving
flight LAX HNL LAX

The reason we don't fly HNL is the yeild. That simple.

I bet we could fill it with nonrevs! Come on Dave, do if for the team. -Cape

a/c 654. May she rest in peace. :(

Hawaii isn't the holy grail of destinations by any means. The carrib is more lucrative and can be done with cheaper airplanes. Flying an A330 would be ludicrous when it generates much better revenue going to Europe.

I think for the most part people on the west coast go to Hawaii and people in the east head for the Carribean. So it makes sense that, being almost exclusively an east coast carrier, US would shun HNL in favor of the Carr. islands.

Right. No chance to gain any operational revenue, and people burning miles for UA tickets which US then has to pay for.

IIRC, UA, AA, DL, CO, and NW go to Hawaii. You would think US would at least try to give it a go...

HNL does not make too much sense if your only service area is from east of the mississippi. Others are correct - east coasters go to the Caribbean and the caribbean routes are much more lucrative.
