Also remember that outsourcing includes vendors like GE repairs CO's engines.
GE built the engines.

Page D12 of today's WSJ for the fact-checkers here today.

I believe that either the TWU, NHBB's, AMFA or one of the DAVES is responsible for this obvious encroachment upon safety standards and the American way of life.

Discuss.

Are you implying that any carrier that insources (is that even a word?) maintenance work and loses money on the year therefore loses money on the year because of the fact that they insource?

Sounds like a big ole post hoc argument to me.

I believe the original poster requested a discussion that would determine whether outsourcing mtc. work A) is not as safe and B) is a challenge to the American way of life.

While it could be argued that the "American" way of life is to make mo' money, overall, I would say the profit margins of the carriers you singled out on this list is entirely irrelevant to the discussion at hand.

Hmm , U and CO are tied at 38.4 %...and CO inches out a profit for the last quarter. Could this speak of their leadership Vs. our? Maybe having global reach and physical accountability is the defining difference?

I think Dave needs to take a closer read on Gordon's Book the next time he has a spare moment.

Well, if a company has more flexibility to manage its resources and to allocate them where needed, statistics and textbooks show that they tend to be more efficient and make mo' money - as you said.

Hmmm. Last time I checked, this was not a moderated topic. And, to assume that "this obvious encroachment upon safety standards and the American way of life" dictates the universe of the discussion is quite frankly akin to the message thread:

The only source of moderation I was expecting was that of logic and common sense. You still haven't said if you're standing by your implied assertion that the carriers you singled out would have had a literal reversal of fortune had they simply outsourced mtc. work.

Also - isn't it possible for "insourced" mtc. workers to accept necessary concessions that would make it worthwhile to continue using their services - both for financial reasons and those of safety?
