What's Going On In Pit Today?

What sort of special events do that have going on in PIT today, and when? Specifically, I mean things that the pax can join in on.

I have no reason whatsoever to fly anywhere today, and I don't even have the time, really--but I could spare a few hours to head out to the airport, buy a refundable GoFare to get airside, join in the festivities, and refund the ticket on my way out. Is it worth it?

only worth it if you have absolutely nothing else to do

what i heard from the gate agents the other day was that the 'festivities' were going to be land side, outside of security, brilliant eh?

so now the employees and transfer pax have to take the tram leave security to check out the 'fun'

guarantee this was decreed by the same tsa mgmt idiot that said crews can't go plane to plane across the ramp on the A term.

Landside would certainly suck for all the pax transferring through PIT. TSA

Though it'd work for me.

If I do have to buy a ticket, though, there are a few things availble that are refundable, one-way, no advance purchase:
PIT-ORD/PHL for $83, it's an H fare, and there's not a whole lot of H inventory left for those flights
PIT-FKL for $101, it's a B fare, and definitely won't sell you

Anybody with more details? I'm gonna hop in the shower and check back...I'm leaning on going.

Damn boy, you do like to stir the ####, dont you? Anything to back this up? Or just some more hot wind?

PIT station did a wonderful job today! The ticket counter was decked out with a gigantic poster of a stork (created by two of the agents) carrying a new born airplane in its sack! There was a large nest with an egg from which the "baby" hatched.

Most of the agents were dressed up like their favorite destinations - a cowboy, a Statue of Liberty, a hula dancer...

All of the airlines' former logos were prominently displayed and a steel drum band provided entertainment.

My favorite part? - Seeing smiling faces on the employees as they greeted each other in the "chow line", hugging and looking like FUN was part of their lives again!

It felt great and mother nature provided a gorgeous day, to boot!

Just got back. The ATO was pretty cool. That nest/egg was terrific. And my favorite part was the circles with ALL of the various predecessor airlines, they were terrific.

Then I went airside. Not so much as a banner in sight that might have indicated there was a merger today, or was going to be a merger any other day. Pretty pathetic, seeing as how lots of pax connect there. (Though while I was there, I walked all the way down A and all the way down B, and you could've shot off a cannon without hitting anyone. Pretty sad.) Oh, there was one little thing I noticed airside...when I went to the special services counter to get my ticket refunded (yeah, TSA, did a great job keeping me landside!), the agent had one of those pins with the heritage logo. I wish I could get one of them, they're great.

I am so happy USAirways agents and workers are having a good time and smiling again. See I told you guys it would be great

Bout 2 years ago or so we had a costume day where all employees were allowed to dress up ( I think it was in connection with Halloween). DP and his management team made rounds to the different work centers in support and were dressed up like....I think it was the Three Amigos...well anyway they performed a few musical (if ya want to call it that) stints for the hanger folks. It was a riot, folks were rolling, and was just hysterically funny. I think I can speak for my co-workers when I say...we are glad to share with our new partners the good times we have had and the good times we will have in the future. There is alot of hard work ahead, but DP will empower us to have fun while doing it. ;)

I hope everybody is enjoying the free cake and coffee.
I am sorry but I am personally having trouble getting excited about this merger. The past 10 years have been hell on the U employees. PSA merger was a failure. Piedmont merger was a failure. Pay cuts kept coming and 2 bankruptcies later we are still in the red.
I really hope this is the beginning of something new and better for all the employees but it needs to be proven to me.
Only time will tell.

I hope you are right on good times ahead. That will remain to be seen. US empls. have been thru hell.

Well, DP has really done a good job letting us know at HP the hard times folks at US Airways have gone thru. Many of us are really glad to be a part of helping turn things around at US Airways which in the long run will help save our jobs too. It does remain to be seen. There are so many factors involved, but if we start with attitude, something we have control over, it will be a good start. Most at HP are confident DP and management team will do the right thing and make sound decisions. For the things out of our control such as fuel prices and what our competitors do...well we just need to keep in mind we have no control over those things.

Goes to show its our time to shine and come out ahead after everyone said we couldn't.

From what I've read AWA hasn't always had it easy, and is made up of a great group of hard working people. It's time to put all of our past behind us and look toward the future!

There's a reason people refer to Dave Siegel as Austin Powers...
