What Will The Us F/a's Do....

Now that the HP MEC has put out their letter to their members in regards to a rally at the Sept 13th meeting at their headquarters what shall the US flight attendants do? Now I'm not speaking for EVERYONE but even as evidence in our voting turnout, we have a very unmotivated group of folks. Are we going to just sit around and watch them rally and try to make some changes to the AFA C&B's or are we going to make our voices heard as well? They plan on waving signs that say of all things "20 YEAR FENCE". That just may border on the rediculous. I know their worry but we need to protect our seniority that they are trying to wrongly gain. Our union at US needs to start getting some information to its members on paper to pass out or read in crew rooms. SOOOOO many are uneducated on the line and have absolutely NO idea of what is going on. Many don't have computers or even turn one on if they did. I'm sure many of us have seen it and heard rumors up the wazoooo. Lets get it together.

I, too understand the HP concerns. However I think they are making way too big a deal out of this and are dangerously close to screwing up relations between the two groups forever.

I don't think the AFA BOD will agree to change to DOH policy. Seniority is what we live by.

Unfortunately, because of all the mergers our stews have been through, I don't think some of them would ever consider that they wouldn't get DOH in a merger.

If the HP folks feel they need to rally and wave signs, I say let them do it. It will still be DOH and the flood of US people into PHX will not happen. I think for us to "counter posture" would only feed the fire. We should keep cool and let the AFA BOD do it's job which is to protect the interests of ALL it's members. If we get into a screaming match, it will make us look crazy.

I don't think either group has nearly as much to worry about as they think they do.

God, it's late! Good luck everyone...and relaxxxxx.....

The reason I posted above was that we all need to be aware of what they are doing over at HP. There are so many uneducated people in regards to this merger. They listen to jumpseat crap and believe it. It spreads and before you know it you have flight attendants flipping out over issues that are not really true. True we should not "counter posture" but we should let them know that although we are really happy about this merger we WILL NOT sit idle by while ANY attempt is made to screw with the C&B's that were already agreed to before any thought of a merger between HP and US was thought of. We should though feel confident that our AFA union will say, "No can do" to changing the DOH policy.

There will be information from the MEC coming out shortly. The members will have an opportunity to address the AFA BOD on this issue through a letter.

It will be forthcoming on an E-line.

I come from the maintenance enviroment. But I believe we as an Airline should be of one Union voice. I mean this in every sense. That Pilots, Mechanics, and Flight Attendants should be in the same Union and speak as one strong powerful voice. And the message the merger people should hear clearly from us all is (DATE OF HIRE) is the bases of Unionism!

That is right - they should line up a row of chairs and in their uniforms sit very civilized and with a sign on an easel at each end of the line of chairs that says - we have merged 3 companies succesfully and merged DOH. The other should say We play by the rules and don't disobey our constitution and by-laws.... Let them look like idiots and scream and then the USAIRWAYS folks will look like the profesional employees most of us are. Sit there and let the 2 signs make a point and say nothing.

If you insist on DOH the fences should be 45 years, not 20.

You look like you are out to steal the jobs of the AWA F/A's.

The job you bring to the merger is the job you should have after the merger.

Without knowing the collective bargaining agreements you are represented by, I can only speak to the one we have in maintenance. And in our agreement no one can displace another without a bid. I.E. that is without an opening no one can move or take anothers position.

You wouldn't be saying the above if you were a US F/A with a 1960's hire date. Try to see both sides and DOH is the only way.

The rally they plan on organizing is supposedly going to take place at the Share Holders Meeting to vote on the merger. HP will only allow share holders in the meeting and proof of ownership of shares is required. If there is room after letting the share holders in, then the general public will be allowed in.

How old we are and how long we have worked here is irrelavant. If you are a 45 year old reserve at US why are you entitled to take the job of a 30 year old blockholder at AWA? Because we choose to stay at an inferior company for twenty years?

What matters is the jobs we brought to merger.

The job you bring is the job you keep.

Can you honestly see the United hags in charge of AFA national not allowing DOH? That being said, there should and will be protections to help the junior HP FAs. That's the right thing to do and I don't think you'll find too many objections from the US FA's on that.

AWA f/a here (very unpopular at home for supporting the AFA Constitution and ByLaws). One of the things they are going to be rallying for is a CONTRACT. The company evidently doesn't feel the need to finish it, and we are understandably frustrated over that.
Also, you guys have been through this before, and we havent, so there are many trepidations over the unknown. Everyone I have talked to in the past few months has basically said that they are sad to see our name go, but pretty excited about the opportunities and experiences that await with the merger.
In the past few weeks, there has been an uprising from a few that has spread regarding the seniority integration. They are not listening to the facts, and are reacting to the rumors. I just got off of a trip and one of my co-workers was insisting that "6000 of the US Air flight attendants are going to bump us out of Phoenix" , and "someone talked to someone on a crew bus and was told that there are several hundred US Air f/a's that are going to come here and take our jobs".
There was no reasoning to be had with her.
You guys seem pretty fun to me, as are our flight attendants. Once the dust settles, and this thing is done, I think the emotion will be taken out of the equation and we will have a dynamite work force.
AFA isnt going to change the rules. And there is never going to be a 20 year fence. This is FEAR talking, not reason, and we know it. Well, at least MOST of us know it.

THANK YOU - At least we can see some people have a brain -

Seriously folks, there are soooo many threads beating the same dead horse. It is out of our hands. The board will decide in October. We can all sit and complain about then. Everyone is getting worked up over something that cannot/will not be change and we cannot do anything about.
