Hey we recieved a news letter at CO that says NW is going to replace airport agents in the hubs with sky caps!! .....well I think that will last as long as the first bad weather day. Anyway, is this true and whats up with that.
NW may replace CSRs at hubs with skycaps
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported Tuesday that effective June 1, 2004, North-west Airlines (NW) plans to lay off 120 customer service agents at its MSP, DTW and MEM hubs and replace them with 80 skycaps. The story said the airline would save $1.2 million a year by replacing the airport agents with skycaps, who will be paid approximately half as much.
In addition to their regular wages, skycaps who assist customers with their bags at curbside make substantial tips. According to the union that represents NW's airport agents, the skycaps who work inside the terminals will not be permitted to accept tips.
NW confirmed its plan to reduce customer service agent positions and give skycaps more responsibility to help customers checking in at airport kiosks.
