What About Clt?

Hey all im new to this form. But I have a question, US has a huge hub at Clt. And 80% or more trafffic is US. And just what if US goes under, what does everbody think will happen to CLT.

CLT has the lowest percentage of originating traffic for any major airline hub. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 90 percent of traffic through Charlotte Douglas Int'l is connecting traffic.

If and when USAirways ceases operations, other airlines will increase the number of flights they offer between CLT and their hubs, but it is highly unlikely another carrier will hub out of CLT.

Northwest has Memphis to serve the southeast.
Delta has Atlanta.
American, Dallas/ Miami.
United, Wash D.C at Dulles/ United still in bankrupcy and USAir code share partner
Contenintal, code share partner with Northwest.

USAirways still has about 7000 active employees in Charlotte and several thousand on furlough. I think it will hit the local economy pretty hard it USAir fails.

I happen to be one of the furloughee's hoping for a change in management before it's too late.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. :)

I would have to think that maybe Jetblue would probably make something out of the CLT or may be SWA would.

Happy Thanksgiving to all except the mgmt crooks of us at ccy

If US does go under, CLT will have alottt of gates available for airlines. US are using 4 out 5 concoures. And I think CLT will be good for jetBlue to have a hub with, what do you think about Continenta?

First of all Jet blue does not hub per say. If they offer service to clt it would probably be to/from jfk, maybne to/from fll as well. From clt service to small cities in the piedmont region would be by car or travel to another hub (atl/iad) then a RJ flight if offered at all. So to answer your question, should Usair cease to exist service to a few major cities with jets the rest by auto. Remember with the low cost carriers only serving the big population centers well you should be able to figure out the look of the air travel system in ten years. And it will not be pretty!! :(

CO might just take a hard look at CLT, with Continental Express growing, it might be a nice fit, they might be tempted to move some capacity from CLE.

Does American West operate on a hub system? And if they do; would CLT be good for AW?

What about GSO?
CO tried a micro-ultra-mini hub in GSO already. It was under the CO Lite fiasco that they tried with the Peanut Fares. They started out with all 737-200's and slowly fizzled to a bunch of Be-1900's. GSO is too small a O-D market and too close to RDU and CLT.

I think if US were to revamp the fare structure then CLT could really be a great money making hub. As it stands now people drive away from CLT to get a lower fare. GSP, CAE, GSO,INT (Greensboro 230K+ pop. and Winston-Salem 200k+ and thats just in the city limits) are all within reasonable driving distance to CLT if the price is right.

I have no idea how many passengers I have spoken to who have purchased GSO-to-(fill in the blank) connecting in CLT and want to skip the GSO to CLT flight and just originate in CLT. They are usually upset when we advise them that skipping a flight will cancel the remaining flights. I understand the passengers point, and I understand the companys side (fly it like you buy it). But this can work in the other direction too if we fix the fare structures. CLT should be drawing from these other metro areas.

Put some reasonable business fares in CLT before B6 enters the market PLEASE.

Charolette Airport will be devestated should us air go out of business. And do not look for any ailine to fill the void for quite some time. They are in the same situation as Pittsburgh which has seen its traffic drop dramitically. You may see a couple of flights added here and there but you will see 90% of the traffic gone. Hopefully it does not happen but the folks in CCY need to make some dramatic changes to prevent another ch. 11.
