Warren Buffett, a multi billionaire pays less tax than his employees do. And yet the republicans want to give more tax breaks to the rich while the middle class is struggling to make ends meet.

Interview with Tom Brokaw

So oil companies who reap billions in profits get a tax break while we struggle to make ends meet and our taxes go up. Makes perfect sense.

Don't forget though, that in 2006 Buffet gave more than $30 BILLION to charities. That gift probably does better for mankind than an equal amount in taxes.

I agree that many changes should be made to the tax code, particularily for the richest 1% of americans. I also think some changes should be made so that the middle 80% are given fairer treatment. However, that should not come at the expense of the richest 10-5%. You may think that is a lot of money, but many of those people live in NY or other expensive locals, where the $ does not go very far. If they moved to another locale and took another job, their pay would be closer to the top 30-40%, struggling with bills just like everyone else.

*** Edit

Also, I believe that a major reason why some less fortunate americans pay a higher percentage of their salary in taxes than more fortunate americans, is because they simply do not find or use all of the benefits currently available to them through the Tax Code.
