Waiting on the numbers...RE: displacements and recalls

Since the CLT displacement has been rescinded, I would imagine it's logical that the PIT displacements need to be awarded before it is determined how many recalls are required on an individual basis for each base in need: PHL, DCA, BOS and LGA. Just wondering if anyone has an idea of when the individual base recall #'s will be known and released?

Since letters need to be sent and returned, how likely is it that recalls actually return to the property by June considering letters have not even yet been sent? I ask this because some of those who are considering a return may be doing so after a nearly 6-year furlough! From what I've read, those who may return after such a long absence will need a 2-week refresher training, can anyone confirm if this is correct?

Factual answers appreciated...and please no "Why would anyone come back?" responses...everyone has their own reasons...

I was recalled last June. I received my letter in the beginning of April. I did 8 days worth of training (4 days extended requalification, 1 day of requalification, 1 day of recurrent, Airbus 321 and Transatlantic. I was already qualified on the A 330 but those who weren't had to do that as well. It took me three weeks because of my work schedule at my other job I had. So, think about those 8 days plus EMB190 and merger integration and whatever other aircraft they aren't trained on. That is two FULL weeks of fun!

Once we received our recall packet we had to get fingerprinted and fill out a lot of forms. If our background check was OK we got our ID and emergency manual, recurrent book and other stuff. We also had to order uniforms, send in bids, etc. by May 17th or 19th. I can't remember the exact date. Some people didn't get their uniforms in time so they couldn't work until late June or July. I didn't start until June 21st, I used my old uniforms until I got my new ones. Otherwise, it would have been longer.

Thanks for the good information FlightChic. Much of this is new details that I had not heard before. I have so many questions, but most importantly...At what point are you on US Airways payroll again and begin getting paid? Does it begin when you go for requalification training or do you have to wait for uniforms to arrive and fly your first trip since it appears that could be quite some time after you are recalled?

Thanks again and if anyone else has additional information, it is much appreciated.

flyguy121,

Since you're a recall and not a new-hire, you will be protected by the US Airways F/A Contract. As such, I would assume that you will be on the payroll effective your first day of training. From there, I would imagine that, your paychecks would coincide with the F/As meaning that you would get half your guarantee on one bi-monthly paycheck and your true-up on the other bi-monthly paycheck. I would suggest reviewing the F/A Contract and/or calling/emailing the Union.

I hope this helps you with your decision and we all look forward to you coming back on-line. Fly safe!

PS - Pay for training will most likely be 1 hour pay for 2 hours training or some variation of this formula.

We got paid for training and were on payroll beginning June 1st, and we got an advance in June so we would have a paycheck to help us out so we wouldn't have to wait a month and a half.
