In response to "Hanging up the gloves" (Oct. 31, Sunday Business):The article comparing the resurrection of Continental Airlines to US Airways missed one big point. True, Gordon Bethune did work for Boeing before moving to Continental, but before he was at Boeing, he was the vice president of flight operations at Piedmont Airlines. On merger day, USAir summarily fired Bethune and his entire team, the guys who brought Continental back. USAir regarded Bethune & Co. as a bunch of dumb Southerners.

Well, now who was the dumb one in that deal?
