Us Airways Strives To Raise On-time Rate

And then the rest of the story......

In addition to its on-time rankings, US Airways is focusing on the cleanliness of its aircraft.

The airline, which contracted out the cleaning of its planes' interiors in March, wants to ensure that the job get done properly. So it has posted job openings for "aircraft appearance supervisors" at its three major airports in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Charlotte. According to the job description on the US Airways Web site, the supervisor's job is to oversee the cleaning of the aircraft and "ensure that all areas of aircraft cleaning are accomplished in a timely manner."

For some frequent fliers, the attention to cleanliness couldn't come too soon. New York-based clinical researcher Michelle Cousin, who has logged more than 100,000 frequent flier miles on US Airways since 2002, has taken to carrying her own bottle of Formula 409.

When her seatmate went to the restroom on a flight to Houston last week, Cousin pulled out a rag and got busy with her bottle of 409.

"Sometimes the filth you encounter is deplorable," she said.

I would like to welcome Ms. Cousin to the dog house.

Suey, suey, suey

Instead of wasting money on "aircraft appearance supervisors", why don't they just have them clean the planes--or hire competent cleaning services who can take RESPONSIBILITY for their performance....

Oh....I forgot who we're talking about here......

Someone drop me a bone next time you pass by my doghouse :)

My best to you all......

Or maybe they just need to stop outsourcing and bring back employees who use to care.

That is funny, there all ready is utility foreman in CLT and PHL, maybe they need to hold them accountable.

The question is who to hold accountable? Is it utility themselves doing a poor job (or not doing it at all), the foremen for scheduling which workers clean which planes, or their managers for providing (or the lack of) utility people to clean the planes?

Probably a bit of each would be my guess, but more of a top-down issue.

I'll gladly take up residence in CCY's doghouse, as long as I stay in the good graces of the CP desk! :)

Hate to tell you this but Utility was let go the last week of March. All cleaning is now outsourced.

Hoping to boost its on-time ranking, US Airways is offering cash incentives to its employees, the Washington Post's Keith Alexander writes. The carrier's on-time performance has declined, in part because the bankrupt airline has cut staff. The airline said it will pay each worker $75 any month that it ranks No. 1 in the Department of Transportation's on-time report. The Washington Post (free registration) (5/10)See Story

Ok time to call a spade a spade.....

You and I both know they quit cleaning long before the end of March, even though they were on the payroll. We've been having this discussion since you used another name on this board. Utlity is at fault here as well. And don't give me the tired old excuse that they only have x minutes to clean a plane or there is only one of them. I've stepped on to a couple of these planes after they were cleaned by utility in CLT and I don't think they touched them.

In the end management knew this was going and refused to do anything. This rest squarely at the feet of Uncle Al, but your union brethren are not lilly white here

its about time they offered something like this. continental does the same with $100 bonuses . the checks are sent in the mail to employees. hopefully for us its aslo a separate check and not combined with our paychecks.

I'd say FIRE al! Afterall he cant do the performance he should be doing. if it were any one of the unionized employees they would beout the door
