US Airways opens Buenos Aires office

WASHINGTON (Aviation Daily) - US Airways opened a Buenos Aires office and plans within a month to start code sharing with United, which will carry passengers on its flights from Ezeiza International Airport to Washington to connect with US Airways service to the rest of the country. Cormoran International now represents US Airways in Argentina.

Why does US Airways need to open its own Buenos Aires office if it is only going to code share with UA? US Airways did not open any Asian offices when it began code sharing with UA in the Pacific.

Best regards,

Chip

Yes, yet another failed attempt by our illustrious marketing dept to increase traffic... Now why would anyone do the "connection dance" when they can fly on AA or CO non stop from MIA, JFK or EWR...we continue to not have a clue as to what do with this mess of an airline..Maybe will be lucky and Jetblue will buy us...one can only hope!!!

Well, maybe because if you''re not living in MIA or NYC, getting there may require a connection.

AA loyalists living in PIT will have to fly PIT-ORD-MIA to get to the MIA-EZE flight.

AA loyalists living in BUF will also have to fly PIT-ORD-MIA to get to the MIA-EZE flight.

So, if you''re a US loyalist and want to stay on US, you can simply fly PIT-IAD-EZE. If you''re in BUF, you fly BUF-PIT-IAD-EZE or BUF-PHL-MIA-EZE.

UA also flies to MIA. So, you''re going to be connecting through the US hubs or for the limited MIA Express flights.

Also, even if you fly both segments on UA for ease of connections (like BUF-IAD-EZE), you can still get US frequent flyer miles for the whole trip, which is important to some folks.

Well-- obviously-- this is irrefutable proof that U will be taking over UA''s South America routes next week, the DEN and ORD hubs next month, and then the Asian and Heathrow routes by Jan. 1, 2004. Duh-- what ELSE could it mean?!?!

Today it came to my attention US Airways' Flight Department recently tasked its Flight Publications office to begin writing a Theater of Operations - South America (TOSA) publication for pilot Jeppesen in-flight manuals. The TOSA enroute charts, approach plates, and flight procedures are required for pilots to operate in a specific region.

Best regards,

Chip

Chip,

Will the MAA pilots be the ones using the SA Theater of Ops. when they start flying the 170''s up from San Jose de Campos?

Chip answers: No, MidAtlantic will operate as a separate division and will have its own Ops Specs, thus it will likely not have FAA authorization to conduct such operations. Furthermore, the EMB-170 manufacturer listed maximum range is 2,100 nm's.

Chip

So it looks like we are picking up South America after all. Could it be that with all the troubles Varig is having now and their potential merger/acquisition that the STAR folks are concerned about a STAR South American presence. I recall reading a while back that the U BOD was looking into dumping flights to South America, but I haven''t seen anything on that in a while.

If we pick up this additional flying, won''t we need more widebodies?
