US Airways extends gains (UAIR) By Michael Paige

LOS ANGELES (CBS.MW) -- US Airways (UAIR) shares continued to post gains Tuesday, adding as much as 21% in early trading. The airline held talks with its flight attendants last Friday as it tries to cut costs in a bid to avoid bankruptcy. US Airways is seeking $116 million a year in concessions from its flight attendants. Art Hogan, chief market strategist at Jefferies, said hopes that airlines will be able to pass on higher fuel costs to passengers through surcharges may also be giving the shares a lift. US Airways shares added 16 cents, or 6 percent, to stand at $2.96 in recent trading.

USA320Pilot comments: ALPA and the company have agreed to begin formal negotiations on Tuesday, June 1, following the completetion of the MEC meeting on Friday, May 28.

This is more than a dead cat bounce. If it were otherwise, folks would have sold yesterday - or this morning when the stock went south for the first 30 minutes or so.

Well, $7.50 is the trigger. Once its gets there, everyone breaks even...expect action from the big boys then

Over 1.5 Millions shares already traded. Is this the Mesa life after US????? Is J.O. Buying??????

Remarkable. You are excited that the union and company agreed to begin talks in another week.

Do you have enough time left? Why wait a week??

Very sad.

USA320Pilot comments: Whatkindoffreshhell, I do not believe my comment showed excitement or disappointment and was simply a statement of fact. In regard to discussions, am I glad that my colleagues, across-the-board, are looking at further reductions in pay and benefits or the cessation of operations instead? No, but I understand the realities of the changing marketplace.

The marketplace will decide what the pay and benefits will be and today the LCC's are setting the standard. Unless there are marketing and distribution, network, operations, and labor changes, to align US Airways with the new threat (LCC's), the company will fail.

There are no options for any legacy carrier. Either the airline in question has a competitive cost structure that will enable it to compete or the company will fail, period.

For the sake of argument starting 10/27/2003 the stock has dropped from a high of 15.25 intraday (12.90 closing price) to an intraday day low of 1.44 on 5/19 and 5/20/2004 (closing at 1.46 and 1.73 respectively).

I don't ever remembering you posting the trading activity of Usairways stock to support your arguments.

I was wondering why just because Usairways has moved back up 3.20 still 79% off the 15.25 intraday high on 5/20/2003 you now chose to talk about Usairways stock price.

USA320Pilot comments: Because other people started the topic and I elected to opin my thooughts. By the way, "I was wondering why just because Usairways has" provided the unions a comprehensive overview of the "Transformation Plan", which will include meaningful profit sharing and stock options, that you have the User Name of Usairways_vote_NO?

Just one more point…

Although there is no current reason to believe US Airways will announce a corporate transaction in the near-term, management has made it very clear that the carrier will be involved in M&A in the future. It is also possible that a pending deal is in the works and the news is leaking out.

Moreover, Bruce Lakefield is a finance guy and probably not a long-term chief executive and president.

USA320 there you go again why can't you speak the truth. You started this thread did you not? If the topic was started somewhere else why didn't it stay there, why didn't you just continue that thread? Because you may see this thread as another ego booster for you to say "hey look who posted it first"?

As far as the question regarding my User name I don't understand the question in question. But are you saying the User name I have had since 2002 I should change and post under another?

For sake of disclosure I think I have been accused of posting under different User name (Rat? I think was one) I hereby deny ever posting under any other name on USAviation.com website and/or forum

USA320 for the sake of disclosure can you say the same? Of course with your penchant for not telling complete truth, I guess its wishful thinking to get a straight answer

But I think it speaks for itself don't you? Vote No

I wish I could say respectfully and mean it but I can't

Vote No

USA320Pilot comments: Your comment above is misrepresentation. The original thread on this topic was closed (See hyperlink), thus I started a new thread t odiscuss today's market action.

USA320Pilot comments: The reason I made the User Name change was due to US Airways' new Ethics policy, which prevents people from using their indentity on a public Internet message board. I did not want to make the change, but I will not violate the company's policy.

USA320Pilot comments: This is an example of misrepresentation again and I have never purposely misrepresented information. If I make a mistake I have always publicly admitted that. By the way, your comments sure look like the pot calling the kettle black.

I did not know the thread was closed that was my mistake. I withdraw comments regarding you should post in the other thread.

Usairways_vote_NO HAD said: For sake of disclosure I think I have been accused of posting under different User name (Rat? I think was one) I hereby deny ever posting under any other name on USAviation.com website and/or forum.

That statement was what it was, saying I never used a different user name. I did not accuse you of using other User names. But I did ask if you have. PORTION DELETED

As far as your misrepresenting facts I disagree whole heartedly and would love to take an unscientific poll or open a thread to that effect but I know it would never make it past the moderator.

I admitted above my mistake regarding the closed thread. You say you always publicly admit a misrepresentaion. Did I miss your public admission to Cav that you misrepresented his post by saying he wanted to commit suicide after he came out and said you were to loney to say that?
