Has anyone heard any rumors about UA hiring off the street for new-hire f/a's? I was recently told that they recalled everyone back on the line becuase of retirements....Can anyone shed some light on this?

Cheers!

There are currently 4000+ flight attendants on voluntary furlough. The people that were called back were the involuntary furloughs and those on involuntary ANP. In order for UA to hire off of the street, all the voluntary furloughs would have to be called back. To this date, that has not happened. Would love to report differently.

I just checked their web site...According to that they are not hiring... It would have been nice though....

Just to add to trollydolly's comments...

I don't think UA will be hiring F/As for a long time. The longest voluntary furloughs (VFs) go through spring of 2007, which is when the bulk of the VFs are scheduled to return. I can't imagine they will want 3,000 VFs returning at the same time so the planning right now seems to be they won't be hiring AT LEAST until 2007, and they will probably have to extend some of the furloughs even past that date because they won't want 3,000 dumped into the system all at once.

But who knows... they could decide to recall all the VFs next month and start hiring the month after that. Or they could do another round of additional furloughs tomorrow. Anything's possible these days.

I can't think of any Top 10 Carriers that would be hiring right now...But, It's one of those things that you never know what their gonna do so never hurts to check !!!

Wow =) Thanks for the rapid response everyone. I didn't realize that all voluntary furloughs must be called back before off the street hiring can resume. I guess this would make sense. I sure wish USAIRWAYS could have some of it's junior folks back. I've been furloughed 2 years next month with little or no chance of ever getting recalled :( Thank god for charter flying...

Ciao for now.... ;)
