Two Aircraft Hit Again !

PVD is still mainline ramp for US and I can tell you there are many agents that have been at Airways for decades. No idea if it was a newbee or a senior agent, but unfortunate either way. At least no injuries.

Better fire the station manager for not being out there monitoring the operation. Oh, and better fire the shift manager too. Heck, they can be replaced with cheaper people. US doesn't need good managers, they already have them in Tempe.

Yes, but then you have to hope that they're paying attention as well.
That is correct, there should always be 2 wing walkers during pushback. The main problem is that many get themselves into a position where there are out of view from the pushback driver at times. I have stopped several times until both wing walkers came back into my view. Then there are the pushback drivers that go so fast that the wing walkers have to jog in order to keep up with them. For an A/C as small as an RJ it is hard to imagine that anything ever got that close to begin with.

Well, I wouldn't call this aircraft small. Judging from the tail number reported, this was an E175. The length of this aircraft is only about 6 feet shorter that a 737-300. And the overall wingspan is about 10 feet shorter than the 737, so about a 5 foot difference per wing. And as we found out in DCA, the height of the winglet is taller than the tail of a 737... No exactly an RJ...

While there should for safety reasons, at on time pre-merger US used a one person pushback with no wing walkers IIRC. So policy-wise it would depend on the carrier. I know that PVD was mainline when I retired, but don't know what's happened since or if US still does any one-person pushbacks.

Ah yes, the days of the single person pushback... While I agree that having one wing-walker in certain stations is not a problem, there are no exceptions to having 2 wing-walkers on arrivals or departures anymore. I have noticed that SWA appears to only use one, and this has been in a few places where I would have expected them to use 2.

Why is the 321 in PVD? Are the loads THAT heavy to warrant that? Some mentioned a total of 140 pax... with 2 A/C.

Can't we utilize that big boy somewhere where its needed like LAS/PIT/ANY? Flew on a 320 from LAS into CLT, wherein it could have easily been filled with a 321. Meantime, PIT was oversold with a 400.

PVD is a good station for US and US is a very strong #2 at PVD for passengers carried. That flight (8:15am to CLT) was a 757 this past February, so it must be a good performer.

Sorry my mistake, for some reason I thought that it was a CRJ......

it was an ERJ 175 that clipped an airbus aircraft. Inmy station we must have 2 wing walkers and according to the shift managers and station mngr, it is also a usairways policy to have 2 wing walkers at all times. now whats confusing is at least in my city, we were told to walk it in and walk it back but we must either stay in the sterile or get an eson or stay out of the sterile and hope not to get an eson. personelly i used to stay out of the sterile area
