Do you have any knowledge of AA hiring new people off the street while the TWA pilots and fa's remained on lay off?

AA has not hired a flight attendant since 2001. American Eagle is hiring and AA offered openings to furloughed flight attendants with full rights to recall at AA.

What you have not said is when in 2001 they stopped hiring and did AA hire when there were TWA FA's on the street like they did with the mechanics.

There were flight attendant classes graduating and coming to the line up until 9/11/2001 (As a matter of fact the class that was supposed to graduate on 9/13 was released on 9/12 and told to go home.) As I remember, every flight attendant who was still on probation was furloughed at the end of October, 2001. That would be everyone who had graduated since the end of April, 2001. Not too long after that the 162 flight attendants who were off probation, but had graduated after the "TWA" assigned hire date of 4/10/2001, were furloughed. None of these people have been or (probably) will ever be called back.

The most junior STL flight attendants (former TWA) were not furloughed until early 2002. There has been no hiring since 08/01, and won't be. So, no there was no hiring of new flight attendants while TWA f/a's were on furlough.

The first 350 flight attendant furloughs at TWA LLC took place on October 7, 2001, when the TWA JFK operations were closed. Hundreds more were furloughed in November 2001.

Class 2001-28 was set to graduate on Wednesday, 9/19, with a 9/21 hire date. After 9/11 they were told, "don't worry, you'll be hired...might get a furlough, but you will get a seniority number". On 9/18, as their family members were flying in for the evening reception at the CR Smith mueseum, the head of new hire training came in told them they were being released and to turn their uniforms in, flights home depart in an hour.

Thanks American!
