China Eastern Airlines inks memorandum of understanding
China Eastern Airlines has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Airbus for 20 A330-300 aircraft. Should the order be formalised, the new aircraft will replace the company's A300 aircraft and extend the overall fleet to allow for future expansion. The aircraft would be for delivery from the first quarter of 2006 and engine selection is yet to be decided. China Eastern Airlines operates a mixed fleet of over 90 aircraft and is scheduled to take delivery of two A340-600, five A320 and two A321 aircraft in 2004. The airline carried 12 million passengers and recorded a 60.4 per cent passenger load factor in 2003 (2002: 11.5 million passengers and 65.1 per cent load factor).
