Think I'm dreaming, although considering the circumstances....should be mentioned to the CWA.

Should they? The CWA still has to pay their lawyers to be in court, as well as to negotiate (assuming they want to) with the company. That's money they're spending to represent you. if dues are waived, then who pays for that?

Their dues income just got reduced by 21% as well, assuming dues are assessed using your hourly rate as a basis, and not just a flat fee per month per member.

Union expenses are increasing at a time when members are being reduced. It's conceivable that dues will need to be increased to cover S.1113 litigation and normal operations.

usa320: how much are you paying your alpa union dues every two weeks for the union that refused you the right to vote? i am paying 14.98 a check and yet it is ridiculous that my station went down the river to the not so wonderful expressed mainline. i dont think that should be a reason to raise the dues just cause of the bankrupt proceedings. do you?

robbedagain,

While he may not have meant it this way, I suspect what he says has some slight chance of being true for ALPA. Our dues are a percentage of pay, so a paycut and furloughs means less dues money - and you can take your monthly dues and move the decimal to the right one place and still be less than our dues.

The MEC gets a percentage of our dues money, and they burned up their annual budget a while back and are getting by on handouts from ALPA National. I can hear whispers of "assessment" in the air.

Good Luck with that thought!!! The IAM raised ours after we went Mainline Express, to the tune of almost 4X our hourly rate!!!!!
They did the Small stations a "Favor" by negotiating a $7 an hour wage cut, then took even more out of our pockets to add insult to injury. Both the CWA & IAM could have cared less about their members who were taken down to $13 an hour last year, but now it is an Outrage for everyone else to try an live on it. Everyone in the larger stations and Hubs sold the little guys down the river to save their wages....so they thought anyway. We all know that it was a "Win-Win" situation for the unions, they got to keep the MDA and Express employees as dues paying members even though they just lost over 40% of thier wages. Maybe now there will be an uprising against the unions to get the dues more inline with wages. We have to work for less, so why can't they? Cut some wages down there at the Local Fellas....

I think CWA did a good job.......but I think more needs to be done to get morale back ....it's GONE.....I understand there's no money to give for a buyout....but I don't understand why we can't get more swaps .....come on..........that doesn't cost anything, especially now that we don't have anyone working in administration ......because of WorkBrain...................just give me my flying benefits for a package ---I'll gladly go.........I know , what good are the flying benefits when we're not going to be around.?.......I think we'll be around.......just not the way we want to be.
