I bet ol' Randy Malin is having a sh*t fit about now. He thought he destroyed the Florida Shuttle and the Florida market. So we're going to try to take back some of what we gave American and that traitor Randy M. a few years ago. What's the agent staffing in Lauderdale? Can we pull it off right away? Or are we going to have to scramble to get enough agents transfered in there by the February start up? What about gate space? I've never been to Lauderdale. They weren't kidding when they said we were going to have a little miny FLA hub down there. Pretty cool, huh?

Well good. I think that is good news and I am going to not add a sly remark...as much as it's killing me. BRAVO US AIRWAYS!!! Great news!! Good luck!! Let it be said now that this move is being praised before someone starts with the "you all always poo-poo evrything and are negative.

I just hope we are around...NO, I said I wouldn't.

Congrats!!! :)

that is great news! may be we can steal quite a bit of traffic from aa's little hub in mia

One thing that I have noticed is that some of the MIA-originating flights (i.e., MIA-EYW) are now shifting to FLL. FLL-EYW is now 4x RJs so about 200 seats available.

Note that some of the flights are UA and AC flights: these are from the Star Alliance timetable.

Will UA be coordinating there schedule for FLL flights with US also to provide some passenger feed?

Your answer beat my question by a few seconds.

Thanks,

I would love to see some intra-florida service from this one.

CRJs or Dh8s might pull in some business.

You can basically add to these schedules the BahamasAir flights from FLL to NAS and other islands to US's list.

The flights are intersperced throughout the day. UA is running flights to ORD, IAD, and a couple to DEN. The irony is that UA is still codesharing with CO Express on a lot of intra-Florida flights.

I don't think AA is the enemy here. I think you need to steal quite a bit of traffic from JBLU's little operation all over Florida. We at AA are next to get raped even further and it will be done without the benefit of a bankruptcy court.
Nothing against healthy competion here, but the JBLUE's of the industry have made employment in this business nothing to brag about and have played a major role shaping where this industry has come. That coupled with greedy airline executives have destroyed this once great industry.
We hear from all legacy carrier CEOs how the LCC's are killing us. But deep down inside, these greedy airline CEO's welcome the Jetblue's of world to threaten us over and over again with mere survival.
I wish all the USAIR folks, as well as the UA people the best. Hell, I wish all the employees of the legacy carriers the best of luck. We are going to need it.

But think about this. When the legacy carriers ALL become low cost carriers, and they will, the Jetblues of the world won't have anything special to offer travelers anymore. Price is king, not live TV.

But our livelihhoods will never be restored to where they were just a short time ago.

You are correct the LCC's will not have anything over the Legacy's. Price is tthe current king. The industry has been a cycle ever since it's begining. Look at where UAL, AA, DAL were 20 years ago. Who was king back then? Do you remember EA, TW, PA, there were the force at one time. Now apprears the LCC's are begining to take the lead. Do not worry too much about this becuse in the future they too will be overtaken. I just hope I can get out of the indutry before I am forced out.

Best of luck to all (LCC's and Legacy's alike)

Looks as if the LGA schedules are being cut back as the season goes into its peak. IT's time to bet the farm; the schedule is as risky as it is impressive.

Huh,

Does not seem like the actions of a company without a plan, an airline without a future...

Naysayers beware, you might be eating crow for dinner...

Uhh, sure. All you need to do is dig up the capital to invest in facilities at FLL, fight off horrid yields from any domestic feed, and stand up to the inevitable response from the 800 pound gorilla down the road at MIA (AA). Want to know who will lose a loss-leader fare war to the islands? Ain't gonna be AA, folks.

But keep thinking that. Optimism, in the face of reality, is healthy.

I do not share this enthusasium about Ft Lauderdale...Its putting alot of your eggs in one basket...There is plenty of competition to and from Ft Lauderdale...
There was a commitment to Baltimore for Metrojet until Southwest took over....
There could be an increase in traffic to and from Ft Lauderdale in the winter months at extremely low fares,... but summer may be a lean time for flights....
You will get little premium fares in this market and could be a losing proposition...

The positive factor would be flights to International destinations from here....
Looks like possibly a move out of desperation...
