1-the retirees of ual WILL BE required to pay medical benefits***alpa, afa, iam etc
\ will not be able too stop ual inc from imposing premium costs to retirees through litigation**it is the DIPS**JP MORGAN, CITIGROUP,BANK ONE ETC that really call all the shots.
2-TED will fail**UAL should have gone the way of AA AND NW***simply put ***just match the fares of the competition in each individual market\
3-RES CENTERS*most current res centers will be gone within 5 yrs***outsourcing of res jobs will continue to escalate to foreign countries**aka india, mexico canada
etc***as the internet grows and enhancements are made to the airline web sites
more and more people will book online**it is happening already\\
4-the amt membership will continue to decline as more and more aircraft maintenance is farmed out to third party vendors\
5*all aircraft cleaner jobs will be eliminated to either outside vendors or made the function of ramp service
6*Ramp service jobs will also be eliminated in the near future**also vendors such
as swissport can do the same job for half the pay and benefits
7*AFA jobs will also be gone***ther are several flight attendant schools in south america that are training recruits in all phases of air safety and are FAA certified**
in essence**ual can subcontract out all afa jobs
8*only the pilots and a handfull of amt's will be safe**because of far regs and certain licenses required by the FAA for these groups too possess to operate a commercial airline
9*pension plans**most will be gone in the future**a greater emphasis will be placed on 401k plans with matching contributions from the employers*****

**********This is simply an opinion and should not be construed as an accurate account**of what WILL happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Skyglider99,
Unfortunately I think you are absolutely right. I do think all those jobs will eventually go overseas, regardless of US law about needing to be a citizen or needing a "green card" to work within the United States. They will find a way around that. That's for sure.
I just think you are being modest in your assessement. The bean counters are never done with their job, eventually it will get to everybody, even the pilots! FAA certification can be accomplished by people coming here or by fully certified schools and training centers anywhere in the world. Why would a bean counter refuse to look at a third world pilot, (without, yet, a FAA ticket), making US15K a year to fly a 7E7?
That is what happened to Merchant Mariners. They started out with the deck hands, move on to the cooks, then the stwards, all the way up to the ship officers and finally the captains. To captain a mega tanker that costs as much as a half dozen 777s, needs about 12 miles to stop, and can cause as much insurance costs as those half dozen 777s, (God forbid), you need not be a slouch either....Well, there is that Exxon Valdez guy...
Yup, the future is grim.
