Judge Cancels Collective Bargaining Agreement Between US Airways, Machinists Union

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- A bankruptcy judge on Thursday canceled a collective bargaining agreement between US Airways and its machinists union, providing millions of dollars in annual savings that the airline says will prevent the need for imminent liquidation.
The termination of the contract with the International Association of Machinists would result in pay cuts for union workers ranging from 6 percent to 35 percent and the loss of thousands of union jobs.

There still is a chance, however, that the union and the airline will agree on a new deal.

US Airways lawyer Brian Leitch said Thursday that the machinists union had agreed to send the company's best final offer to the union rank and file for a vote. If the union accepts US Airways' offer on Jan. 21, the judge's action canceling the contract would be nullified.

One Word:

Strike

In fact I will make a motion to have my local contribute a few thousand dollars a month to their strike fund to help keep them guys going for a few months or until they can find new work.

The IAM Mechanics at U.S.Air should be walking off the job right now! The all powerful AFL-CIO had better get off it's ass and do something NOW! The TWU should be organizing a walkout to support their fellow AFL-CIO members who have just had their contract abbrogated!

AMFAMAN, HOW DARE YOU! Don't you know that our very own unelected leader, jim "without further ratification" little, thinks that is not our fight? The NWA AMT fight for better wages wasn't the twu's fight either.

The anti-labor judge and lawyers who fought for this should never show their faces to mankind ever again.

AMTs at USAir should strike. How much will they need to work for to make USAir profitable? They already took a 41% hit, including a retroactive pay cut. If the iam at USAir accepts more cuts they too should join the scumbag lawyers that have no soul.

Little is sitting back trying to figure out how many more dues payers the TWU will get and how the demise of USAIR will pump up his AA stock. Hell he might even ask the company to raise the TWU kickback! After all it was our concessions that doomed USAIR.

The AFL-CIO will issue a statement shortly, and nothing else.
