Swiss To Join Oneworld

That all sounds nice, but I don't see how joining OneWorld gets Swiss out of the financial hole they are in. They are a publicly traded company. A buyout gets them out from under their debt load. The stockholders might prefer to get something for their stock while the getting is good.
LH wants to control the flying in MittelEuropa, and they have the financial oomph to buy the Swiss stock on the open market if they have to.

I disagree with that, I think with LX in full cost cutting mode there is actually a chance to add some international flying on AA equpiment with the LX code on the flights.wrx said:

JFK-GVA is another,IIRC they run two daily,they could continue to operate one while we operate the other and place their code on it.
BA only floated them a $50 million cash facility, they don't control 51% of the board there....yet.
SWISS is a quality airline falling on hard times(who hasn't). With Star having Lufthansa, LOT, Austrian & SAS and SKYTEAM having Air France, KLM Alitalia, and KLM ( they have great central Europe concentration) the pickings get slim. OneWorld with Aer Lingus, British Airways, Finnair and Iberia is strong at the fringes of Europe but finally gets into the central core with SWISS. With the rich customer base of north Italy, Southern Germany and Switzerland Swiss just needs some feed over its Zurich hub and some connecting traffic BA can't handle over LHR. I long for the days when SwissAir had 3 JFK-ZRH every day. I hope happy days are here again. Service to San Francisco would be nice too.
