Here's an interesting article about fleet growth after W/A goes away, as well as future international service. Happy reading:

Although I have not heard as of yet, I believe this will happen. Rather from Ryan air or someone else. Upper management has stated for some time now that Boeing cannot supply them fast enough, and they will now have to look outside and used A/C to help keep up with the supply and demand after W/A restrictions are lifted, the international flts are going stronger, and of course we start seeing the synergies, in full, from the purchase of AT.
Thx for the link to the "rumor mill" about Ryan Air. Let's not forget the rumor about GK stating that we would be at 1000 A/C by 2017. Looks more likely that we very well may get there, maybe even sooner if they start going after used A/C on top of all the orders they have, especially with the Max and 800's. In my opinion, the next 7 years will be very interesting and positive for SWA and the employees. It looks as if profits and growth will be increasing as we go forward starting late 2013-2020. BTW Gizmo, there are still rumors circulating on AS or Frontier purchase coming.

Alaska Airlines would be a perfect fit but I don't know if SWA employees are ready for another merger right away.

Given that AS and WN control a very high percentage of north-south traffic up and down the west coast, a merger between them could create enormous antitrust issues. Not sure such a merger will ever happen.

Why would Alaska Air be a perfect fit?
They only fly the 737 and dominate routes that we don't.
SWA would remove a competitor in the west and dominate there.
However while they do fly 737-700s and 800s, they also fly some -400s and -900s.
But we could handle that better than flying the AirTran 717.

On top off all that, they are making profits.
