Anyone know why Leonard and Fonaro take stock options each month (in excess of $1M) and cash them in. Most execs would hold on to options...what's going on?

Probably nothing...A lot of executives are on so-called SEC Rule 10b5-1, selling at certain intervals.

Play around with this site alittle, it's telling.

(Take a look at JBLU, their exec's are selling, but nothing strange, they make their money from this selling, as their salaries are lower than the norm.)

Most execs get some level of compensation with options, but the numbers for these two seem excessive. Take a look at any stock quote page for AAI and look at Insider Transactions. A lot of $$$ and what's the affect on the stock price?

IMO, They are exercising their options IAW their SEC filings. Yes it may affect Stock Prices but... look at what is happening to Fuel costs? If you had say, a bunch of shares that were going to lose about a $1 per each, or more, and you could sell, not knowing how high Fuel costs will climb, would you hold or sell? I doubt there is anything shady going on here or anything out of the norm.
Look at the history, this is not uncommon. B)

I agree, it seems the Airtran exec's are rewarding themselves a little over the top. However, AAI is making money, so maybe they deserve a little extra ;)

And I would just assume the employee groups are benefiting also... ;)

I think Joe is in his mid 60's and this is pretty much his last job before he retires. Unlike some other companies like AMR,DAL,etc they do not have a pension or retirement. Those stock options are their retirement. Personally I like this better than pensions because their performance is connected to the stock. If the employees can't have a pension neither should the executives.
