Stl-lgw

I would think there would be a large seasonal demand at the least for this flight....who knows. Does anyone know the status of STL-ANC coming back for a seasonal run next summer?

It is posted on other BBs also.
Bill,

The bulk of posts on this subject, which I saw on that other board, were dated in February and discussed the resumption of daily service from STL to LGW effective the end of March 2003. That was well before the retrenchment of AA at Lambert was announced.

That thread came back to life when someone posted, this week, that the flight is canceled effective the beginning of November 2003.

I have not read or heard anything about the seasonal resumption of that route following AA's decision to virtually pull out of the St. Louis market (OK, OK, turn it into an RJ and prop jet hub).

Stl _ Anc gone next year i wish AA WOULD FLY THERE YEAR AROUND LIKE RENO DID THERE IS NO COMP THERE

American was actually going to serve Anchorage year-round. American had planned on making ANC-STL a year-round service and operate it in the winter 2002/2003, but that was canceled. ANC-STL is not returning next year.

I see no reason why American can't serve ANC year-round. Continental, Northwest, Delta, and United do it. ANC is a high-yield market, especially during the winter when most traffic is out of ANC.

I can't imagine STL-LGW being successful again without feed.

Didnt British Caladonian operate year round STL-LGW back in the early 80s?There must be some local traffic.Maybe AA could treat it like they do RDU-LGW-take whatever connections you can get besides local traffic.

I guess it would depend on a factors like cargo. I know that RDU-LGW is essentially subsidized by Glaxo with the cargo and high yield business fares that it generates.

I'm not privy to the STL info, but does anyone know how the cargo on this route performed, as well as what yields were like for fares? Was it mostly liesure traffic?

Mostly vacationers, from what I saw when I was at the airport frequently this summer. For a small span in July every seat was sold out for like a 3 week span. Now loads are starting to die off, you can tell the vacationers are starting to settle back down and get into the school mode. Lately the loads have been about 70 percent full in cattle class, and darn near full up front. I owe this information to my neighbor  . But he has never revealed any financial info about any of the flights, so I don't know about yield, but I'm guessing its not good. As far as the resumption of the service, I would say its a possibility. STL may want this flight for its ego.
If you want to see an empty flight, look at RDU-LGW, wow. I've heard it gets like EMPTY in coach, but as stated before, Glaxxo does the rest.

I've heard Glaxo actually pays for a certain amount of cargo space on each flight, whether it is used or not. If they were ever to pull their contract with AA, I am sure the RDU-LGW would be shelved lickity split.
