Hi there. I was just wondering if anyone could answer a few questions regarding the Spanish test. I am looking to take the test in a few days and was curious to know how I should prepare or what to expect?! I am curious to know about the Questions? How long does the test take? What are the benefits for passing? Are retakes available? Etc.
Thanks!

If you are a "Spanish Speaker", shouldn't you speak Spanish? Why would you need to prepare or take a retake? Seriously.

Harsh. I do speak spanish, yet just like ANY test, I would hope you prepare yourself for the unknown. I'm sure while in English Class, you studied for your grammer test? Or did you not go to College?

To all that is reading this blog, let me be more specific.

Alaska Airlines requires all Spanish Speaking Employees to pass a test, qualifying them as "Spanish Speakers". My Inflight Supervisor informed me that test was hard, stating that many individuals, who's native language, do even pass the test. She told me the test would be presented in a [proper] grammatical form. She then said I would need to schedule a time to come to the office and take the test, which should take about 20 minutes.... And thats all I know...

I have heard rumors that the test will be either a recording, a phone call or speaking with someone directly. I myself am not a native speaker, yet I have lived in Costa Rica, Spain, lived with and cared for three Cuban children and continue to use my Spanish on daily bases, yet... i would still like to know a little bit more... If you are able to help, please do..

Thanks in Advance!

it really depends on where you learned the language and who is evaulating you. This is because of the different use of different words. For example, a person from costa rica test someone from mexico you'd be ok. Now I'm Puertorrican, if I get tested by a spaniard, He'll fail my ass in a heart beat. But no if I get tested by some one else.

True. I almost failed my Spanish test when I was hired because I was just out of college and year of study in Spain. My examiner was Cuban and I could not understand her and she kept telling me I was using the wrong verb tenses (vosotros) and she was using vocabulary that I was not familiar with.

Thanks guys! I couldn't agree with you more! I took the test, it wasn't hard at all, ALTHOUGH... I can't say I passed, since I only had 20-30 seconds to answer each question, PLUS.. it was conducted over the phone and it was hard to hear what the other person was saying.. Oh well thanks for your time and responding! See you in the air! :)

Have you heard anything yet? From what I've heard on-line most classes are now being sent to SEA or ANC. Spanish speakers are mostly if not only out of LAX.

they give you the test over the phone? that's kinda crappy. at US we have to go to the berlitz office and sit with someone, one on one, for an hour and a half. at the end they tell you if you've passed or not and they fax the papers over to corporate. it is good, because face to face, you can have a normal conversation. on the phone is difficult.
