Airport authority pays to promote new flights
The Allegheny County Airport Authority will pay up to $100,000 to help Southwest Airlines market its new flights at Pittsburgh International Airport.
The authority offers financial incentives to airlines that add new flights. The incentives are offered to all airlines, and the amount is determined based on the number of new flights and destinations.
Other airlines benefiting from the marketing incentive in recent years include AirTran, which offered new service to Orlando, Fla., and Independence Air, which offered new service to Washington, D.C. To qualify, airlines must offer more than five flights a week to the destination for at least a year, authority spokeswoman JoAnn Jenny said.
