Small fire on Republic flight

The story is that probably some brainless moron decided to put 76 lives at risk (72 pax, two FAs and two pilots) to get his friggin' nicotine fix, and tossed his cigarette into the trash can.

why does the newspaper says US Air flight 33whatever. that is NOT US AIRWAYS. It disgusts me to think that the public thinks they are US Airways. oh well i hear they are done for anyway because they have the worst performance of any express carrier... not to mention they dont even follow the us express brand they just do whatever they like because they think they are thier own airline.

At least no one was hurt in the incident and it sounds like the crew did thier job. glad everyone is ok. as usual the news media makes it sound like a die hard movie and calls it a us airways jetliner, because repugnent and express dont sell newspapers.

kudos to the excellent performance the flt crw did in getting the fire out and the pax off safely. one thing that stood out from the video was that one pax said she didnt even smell the smoke. how is that?

You people need to get over the MDA vs Republic crap. The crew on that plane did what they are paid to do. Respond to an emergency, just like any other crew member on any other airline - mainline, express, wholly owned or contract. This is one area where BS should stop.

Kudos to the crew for a job well done.

Moderator, why is Colgan Air SAAB painted in new colors enough to be on the US Airways forum, but a fire on a US Airways Express plane is not?

Traditionally if it was about US Airways Express it stayed in US Airways. This was a US Airways Express flight, on the US Airways EMB170s that were outsourced to Republic Airlines.

Glad the crew did what it's supposed to and no one was hurt. Sounds like the flight attendants responded quickly.

Doesn't change anyone's feeling that they need to go away though.

I gather that means Republic did the flying. I guess you answered your own question.

Good job to this crew.

OK, just playing devils advocate, but if there was a topic that was a press release announcing new US Airways routes, but they were all on regional jets by various Express carriers, should we look for it here or in US Airways?

Fly, you have a PM 🙂

I hope there is more to add to this topic.

No such thing as a "small" fire at altitude.
That is some scary chit.
Very good job by the crew keeping it under control.

the fire was most likely caused by some jackass inconsiderate smoker
it was in the trash bin in the aft lav during initial descent into syr
no damage to the aircraft, the auto halon bottle popped, the rear fa also used a portable halon, and two syr firemen that happened to be on board also poured water into the can.

the syr police questioned people in the aft of the aircraft and of course at that point no one was a smoker.
don't know the final disposition of the flight but i would imagine they cancelled the outbound and ferried back to dca depending on republics mel regarding the fire extinguishers

capt was furloughed mainline, fo was shuttle america transfer, the fa's were a couple of new hire kids, but they did a good job

"capt was furloughed mainline..."

There's your reason as to why the event went as smooth as possible. Thank God Republic has the small number of "MidAtlantic" pilots that they do have.

I wonder if Bryan Bedford (Republic CEO) and his people quietly admit to themselves that it was a big mistake not to do whatever they could to entice (rather than drive away) the "MidAtlantic" pilots into transferring into Republic.

they dont have enough flight attendants either. no one wants to work there and be based in dc for that pay. plus some people in the industry see it as being a scab. they should have offered the flight attendants guaranteed job in seniority order. even at thier pay levels alot would go to fill time before mainline. but they wanted new hires and you see how that worked out. forget the cabin fire they are going down in flames they just dont know what they are doing. they get tons of complaints about thier f/as and cant get enough people to work there for any period of time. any airline would be thrilled to have the ,mda f/as who obviously just love the job to take a 40% paycut but come back and get more compliment letters than mainline. they probably didnt even research, they are just a commuter airline trying to be a big boy and failing. its funny to watch but sad for our customers. but its what usair wanted i guess?
