Singer Whitney Houston dies at 48

But by the end of her career, Houston became a stunning cautionary tale of the toll of drug use. Her album sales plummeted and the hits stopped coming; her once serene image was shattered by a wild demeanor and bizarre public appearances. She confessed to abusing cocaine, marijuana and pills, and her once pristine voice became raspy and hoarse, unable to hit the high notes as she had during her prime.

On one hand I feel a profound sorrow that such a talented person would succumb to the disease of addiction. However, addiction is the only disease where the "cure" lies within. Her bad habits destroyed her career and it matters little whether she died as a direct result of her addictions. Having watched a loved one sink into the abyss of addiction my heart goes out to those who loved her best. The pain they feel will linger long after the grief of her passing. Perhaps now Whitney will find the peace that alluded her here on earth. Go with God Ms Houston, your talent will be missed.
