Sikorsky reported Tuesday that it received FAA certification for its S-76C++ helicopter, an improved version of the S-76C+. The inaugural C++ went to PHI (formerly Petroleum Helicopters), where it will be used for offshore oil support and employee transfer missions. In total there are more than 60 S-76C++ helicopters on order, according to Sikorsky. Incorporating engine interior, avionics and performance upgrades, the new Turbomeca Arriel 2S2-powered S-76C++ will make way for a set of additional product improvements leading to the launch of the Pratt & Whitney Canada PW210S-powered S-76D in 2008. The S-76C++ includes a new VIP interior, a new health and usage monitoring system (HUMS) and “quiet zone technology.â€￾ These upgrades will be included in the S-76D, in addition to a new quiet-rotor system, a new avionics suite and Sikorsky’s rotorcraft ice-protection system (RIPS).
