Should America(n) follow the French lead?

Absolutely not. French economic policy borders on disasterous most of the time. They''re crippled with an expensive pension system, 35 hour work weeks, and high unemployment. Their unemployment rate of ~9.1% makes the US economy look strong and Bush''s economic policy to appear to be pure genius. And that certainly isn''t easy to do :p

Agreed, they are evil socialists, if you can''t get rich then you don''t deserve it. So much for the rant.

The 35 hour work week. How many in/at America(n) actually even get close to that number? Why are you so afraid that americans may get more time off?

It is not the time spent at the work place that matters, its what gets done when you are there. I have seen fewer slowdowns than I have seen standby time because management had to be retrained on Monday morning.

As for Dubya''s economic genius that will become apparent when the states start raising taxes and/or fees to cover basic needs. In OK they are already at it, car tags, are going up.

Its not the idea of a 35 hour work week. The fact is by making it a defacto state policy, the costs of employment go up. All those benefits you earn now effectively cost the employer more for the amount of work you do. If you can finish all your work in that period of time, more power to you. But in general, this results in a drop in overall productivity.

The problem with their policies is that it has resulted in high unemployment, lower per capita income, and a general economic malaise that hits all classes.

As for Bush''s economic genius, that was obviously tongue-in-cheek.
