So now the IBT at UAL goes to mediation. Now what?

Well a previous negotiator, let's just call him Ken, has been making his rounds telling members that the "no voters" really screwed up and now we will have to start from zero when we go to mediation. Hey Ken! Wake up! First, we didn't screw up, you did! Second, we want to start from zero because the concessionary TA you guys brought to us reflects the failure of your job. Now Ken is begging to be on the new negotiating team. Holy crap Ken, I don't think so.

According to our local Principal Officer here in Denver we will be allowed to elect our new negotiators. Currently, we do not know if it will be the same at the other locations. Here is what we are concerned with, if we are able to elect all of our UAL Employed negotiators then we must demand that the lead negotiators, David Bourne and Clacy Griswold not be part of future negotiations. It would be useless to have elected negotiators if the lead negotiators use the same tactics as the last negotiations by putting our elected negotiators in a room separate from the face to face negotiations. If that does happen then we will end up with the same poor product as before.

In order to make this happen the voice of the membership needs to be heard. Click here to contact President Hoffa to let him know that Mr. Bourne and Mr. Griswold must not be part of this negotiating team. We should also demand a more open negotiations with surveys and continuous honest updates

You really do not have to start a new thread every time you get a new thought about how bad the Teamster's are. How about one thread about the entire subject???

Mechanics were told the same thing at AA. Looks like they are following the same game plan the TWU is at AA which is to drag things out and starve you into accepting the concessionary deal you just rejected a year earlier. In the TWU the President of the Union has publically stated that "members should never reject a TA because the company will never sweeten the pot" outside of a strike. Yet 10 months after rejecting the TA, with the sides moving further apart, and the company adding new concessions and no extra money, the TWU has still not formally asked for a release.

I dont know where these guys came up with this "now we have to start from square one" BS. Normally after a TA is rejected the parties are released to a 30 day cooling off period. Thats what the APA did in 2007, then again everyone there is elected by AA pilots. Has the IBT asked for a release? I'll bet the answer is "No", because they are in bed with the company and are looking to punish you for voting NO.

At AA mechanics rejected the deal last August, they didnt get the team back together for around three months, didnt meet with the company for around 4 months and exchanged proposals one at a time for nearly four more months. Clearly the strategy, from the Unions that supposedly represent the workers, is to drag things out for workers who are already suffering. They forget that they supposedly work for the members, not the other way around, they can feel the way they do because you didnt put them where they are and you cant remove them from those positions.

My guess is that half the guys at UAL are at least 50 years of age. Across the industry we are an aging workforce, new blood isnt coming in at the rate the old guys are leaving. We cant afford a "We'll get em next time contract". We have to get them this time, along with retro. The biggest mistake made at AA was the guys should have started hammering the company last August, after they rejected the TA, you guys have a pretty good record (we all remember the Summer from Hell-2000). this one has to be worse. From a fellow mechanic who is an outsider you guys need to break the unholy alliance your union has enterred into with the company where they are going to try and punish you for fighting for a fair contract by going after both of them, practice 110% compliance with the MM and sick outs around the Holidays, start a drive for a union to replace the IBT to put them on notice as well and demand that you get released. If they are going to allign to punish you guys by dragging things out and extending your suffering make them suffer as well.

One question, are you guys in the same Local as UPS? They did a pretty good job over there.

Bob, is this your recommendation for your fellow AA AMT's?
