It was still fun to fly?------- And yes, that's a TWA on the wing!

Yes, flying was indeed more glamorous in those days. It was also much more expensive.  Only a small percentage of people on US (and everywhere) had ever flown. It was also much less safe.  But it was very glamorous.

Well, I guess you get what you pay for!

Perhaps more glamorous but I would rather fly now than then.  I remember flying in the late 60's / 70's.  We lived in MIA at the time and were going to Europe to visit relatives.  Being on a tight budget my folks flew a DC-8 to the Bahamas and then took a 707 (Martin IIRC) to Europe.  The DC-8 sucked and sucked bad.  The turbulence was horrible.  I remember touching down in MIA on the return and already dreading the next years flight back.  I remember air-pockets which would make the plane drop suddenly.

I guess it would be nice to cherry pick the stuff we like out of both eras.  Nice stewardess (that's what they were called back then), clean planes, clean people with modern airplanes, better food when airlines used to serve it) better conveniences (WiFi, movies ...) and lower prices.

Baring that I think I'll take the pissy crew members, dirtier planes and passengers with better planes, amenities and lower fares.  Still beats a car or train to get from DFW to Cali in price and time.

Thanks to Peoples Express, and even Freddie Laker, the backpackers were able to leave their Greyhounds and Trailways buses and take their backpacks into the wild blue yonder.

Of course. That was the beginning of the end for airline travel as we knew it. And for the airline worker as well. But that goes without saying. PE literally pulled the bus riders off the buses and put them in the air.

That would have been the summer of hell due to AA's fare war!

I remember people using trash bags for luggage.

Do not forget the most recent scam.... House pets doubling as service dogs.
This puts a bad name to the real service dogs who have been properly trained to help a handicapped person, Not one who is too cheap to pay to transport their dog or leave them home.
