I read elsewhere that WN is the second largest carrier at SFO. Has AA truncated their SFO operations and/or has WN taken a mighty leap. The article stated that UA has five times as many flights at SFO than WN.
I don't think AA's frequencies have changed all that much over the years. WN has added a lot since coming back, and probably operates more flights on SFO-LAX than AA has all day to ORD, JFK, and DFW combined.
It looks like WN's departures outnumber AA's, but with nonstops to BOS, ORD, DFW, HNL, LAX, MIA, JFK and STL, I gotta believe that AA still schedules more ASMs from SFO than WN. Guess it depends on how one measures size of an airline.
I agree that AA hasn't scaled back its SFO operations much; SJC is where AA has really scaled back.
