Small net loss for the first quarter. Probably in the $125M to $150M range. Not great but light-years better than first quarter 2003. Lots of positive future guidance about traffic and plenty of bragging about fuel-adjusted CASM being lower year-over-year. Lots of negative guidance about competition (especially LCC's in transcon markets) and its impact on yields, as well as the negative impact of higher fuel prices on costs. Expectation of a profitable second and third quarter, not too much clarity on the fourth quarter yet, and still too early to say whether or not the company will be profitable for the full-year 2004.

So in other words, what amounts to about a three dollar drop in the stock price for a few days.

Probably not. Wall Street's consensus estimate right now is for a loss of $1.04 per share. That equates to a net loss of about $160M to $170M. So, I'm guessing that AMR will come in slightly better than estimates. I doubt that will move the stock price much.

From what I've heard AA's #'s will beat the Street's estimates. That will probably move the stock price up!
