Northwest's Memphis route returns; local air traffic gets lift

Northwest Airlines said Tuesday it will resume daily flights to Memphis in August -- just the latest sign that passenger traffic at Pittsburgh International Airport is looking up.

Interesting spin between the two papers...

However, it seems like US Airways is flowing less passengers through its PIT hub (as a result of having less available seats), but O&D traffic (since I am assuming few AA air AirTran pax make connections) may be getting stronger based on low-fare availability (i.e. AirTran and America West) and service additions (i.e. AA and NW). This shows that PIT will indeed survive after US Airways, and would offer support to theories that the area might be better served without a hub (i.e. BNA or RDU)...
