Pilot status question-no politics please

I quit slogging through your threads awhile ago, since they seemed to be a conglomeration of insults and moot history. Can anyone give me a quick non political answer as to whether or not there will be:

a/ ever an agreement beween US and the pilots?
b/ if USAPA is voted in how long until they can negotiate?

It is clear to me that US will not do anything with anyone else until your mess is settled. For the rest of us, so we have a clear idea of the time frame, is it possible for any of you to answer the questions without dragging in the moderator?

a - ever is a long time.....surely there will be an agreement at some point barring US going out of business. When is the real question and I doubt that anybody really knows.

b - USAPA can theoretically begin negotiations on day 1. The reality is that it will probably take some time before negotiations begin in earnest. That could be measured in days, weeks, or months.

Of course, all that assumes that at least 50%+1 of eligible voters actually vote. If not, there'll be no union.

When is the East contract up? I am thinking that might initiate critical mass?

AFA is going ahead with its own negotiations, not waiting for the pilots. Any part of our contract covered by the "me too" clause with the pilots is being replaced with our own contract language. Apparently, that is what is slowing things up a bit right now. This will eliminate the "me too" clause. Something that should have been done a long time ago.

Historically, the company prefers to deal with the pilots first, as they are the big ticket item. AFA can talk and talk, but until the pilots are done I don't see anything finalizing.

We're all locked until the end dates of the East contracts, that's when the gloves can come off, that's why I would like to know the end date of the pilots contract.
