Besides the wicked storms here this morning - they are reporting some type of computer problems. Not sure if that is just U or all airlines but nothing is moving and none of the flight screens are updating with dealys - everything is showing ontime even if the time has pasted

interesting no U plane has moved since i got here at 7 but 2 Southwest planes have taxied past not sure where they went (towards A)

Heard something on MSNBC this morning about AA and US having some sort of computer problems. They said something about dispatch problems and not being able to calculate weight and balance with the computers down.... not sure how accurate it all is, but I am trying to find some better details and confirmation.

Phew, I'm not going crazy.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - A computer glitch grounded American Airlines flights from coast to coast for two hours Sunday morning before the problem was corrected, a company spokesman said.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Diane Spitaliere said she believed the glitch also affected US Airways. Representatives of the airline did not immediately return calls seeking comment.

Why only US and AA? Did everyone else have contingency plans? At least US isn't the only one that dropped the bomb. First thing in the morning too...way to kill operations for the entire day!!!

Yes folks it's true..
I worked this morn @ the gates, and it was a mess..
1-Fueler did NOT PROPERLY fuel CRJ..Therefore 1000.00 additional pounds caused a weight restriction.

2- AA/US decs partition site was UNAVAILABLE..

3- Mesa crew's time out of legality..

4--CANCELLATION..

5- Full 50 seater..

We are CO's best customer...They get our seconds...when I called Load @ CO I mentioned this to the agent, she was wondering what the hell was going on..

Only in America- Phl and USAIR!

This is the only airline CRS failure recently...NW had one recently (power cut) and DL had one on the weekend. Can't remember who else but it isn't unique to US, if that's any consolation.

The Poblems U had yesterday morning could have and should have been handled better. First off, since Operations agents and Leads MUST be qualified to do a manual Weight and Balance, they should have be done manually. The problem seems that Dispatch could not and would not figure out Fuel Loads or Fuel Burns for the flights. We had a aircraft FULL of Carib connections ready to go with a manual weight and balance for an ON-TIME departure. All we needed from Dispatch was the Burn and we could have left. Seems Dispatch couldnt or wouldnt figure out things the old fashion way to get the birds moving. Also, where is the Back Up plan?

The latest on the computer problem....

Grounded flights highlights vulnerability in computer system

BRAD FOSS

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - It apparently took just one errant keystroke to foul up computers at American Airlines and US Airways over the weekend, grounding hundreds of flights while highlighting the vulnerability the carriers face by sharing a single system.

This highlights one of the most difficult issues in computing. How does one deal with the need for realtime information on one hand, and the need for a redundant backup on the other? This problem exists for the stock markets and many financial institutions as well. The solutions are extraordinarily expensive, and aren't 100% failsafe.
