Press Release
For Immediate Distribution
January 15, 2006
Tempe, AZ – US Airways top management today announced the newest addition to
their fleet, the SuperCRJ-ER-HD (Extended Range, Hot Dog).
The new aircraft will be employed on the company’s Phoenix-Hawaii routes, and
eventually could replace the 767 fleet on the east coast European route structure.
“The aircraft is a dreamâ€, Doug Parker, CEO gushed. “This will enable us to offer even
lower fares to Hawaii.â€
Indeed the jet is certified to carry 650 passengers in the ‘Cabin Reformulated
Amenities Management’ configuration, or ‘CRAM’, or just 575 passengers in the
‘Cabin Reconfiguration Access Program’ or ‘CRAP’. Because the crew staffing has
been established during the original CRJ certification program, only two pilots and
one flight attendant are required, thus further lowering the operating costs. “And by
outsourcing the flying to more efficient carriers, we can boost profits at Mainlineâ€,
Parker added. “This is the best solution to our heavy passenger loads to the islands.â€
The airline has been having some initial problems with the current fleet of 757
aircraft not being able to accommodate full passenger loads due to fuel
requirements caused by winter wind patterns on the Pacific route. “We’ll implement
our tried and true strategy. Whenever a mainline aircraft will not accommodate the
massive bookings, we’ll put a RJ on it!â€
