The news channel this evening at 11pm mentioned, that if employees don't agree to the pay reductions...the office in INT may be moved to a more economical location. Just another way to piss of the US workers, it never ceases to surprise me. Threats and intimidation....what an employee morale booster...that'll get us motivated.

In the column BoeingBoy posted, Morten Beyer, the chairman of MBA, an aviation-consulting firm based in Arlington, Va., said that US Airways and other major airlines face a stiff challenge in changing its business model to compete with low-fare carriers. "It's going to require a complete change in its corporate culture, such as adopting higher productivity demands for its work force, higher seating density, operating with little or no frills and no hubs," Beyer said. "Because it's going to be such a difficult transition, I'll believe it only when I see it."

As BoeingBoy regularly indicates, the key to US Airways future success is more productivity from all its resources, including aircraft, facilities, and people. If the CWA wants to maintain either the Pittsburgh or Winston-Salem reservations center than they need to cost effectively conduct their valuable service.

That's no different than any other employee group because the company must not leave any stone untouched in its effort to lower CASM.

Respectfully,

and to help change the corporate culture. the airline needs to take back the 41 million from three clowns---wolf, gangwal, and the third guy (cant remember the name) and take back the 7.5 million to the two other clowns--seigel and cohen. and wipe out all of their perks as well as the perks that the current regime has you know such as free space positive in first class. let us the employees have those perks

Management will take the concessions and ALSO move the jobs..Some people have very short memories.. This company has proven time after time you can not trust them..320, Remember your pension ?????

Since my words are being used, I'll expound on them further...

More productive use of physical assets (primarily planes) will lower the employee portion of CASM all by itself. Management seems to want to achieve a "competitive cost structure" primarily thru concessions, then further lower that cost structure thur business model changes.

I assume that, since you're in favor of abrogation of those contracts, you're also in favor of abrogation of the union contracts, right?

...free space positive in first class. let us the employees have those perks
NONobody should have free space positive in first. Ever.

Bob,

"How about leaving them for CUSTOMERS."

As you've read in this thread, that is the case for the vast majority of employees - no empty seatee, no ridee.

As for the upper echelon and their friends that get the FC seat even if it means bumping customers, maybe that is something you could bring up at Roachfest....

Jim

Boeingboy,

you are absolutely correct, the upper echelon should not bump paying passengers, execpt for POSSIBLY when flying for US business, but I sure they could find a flight that was not full. But to bump paying PAX for freinds, or vacation travel, is just too much.

One thing I have noticed on other airlines DL in particular, the crew that is traveling in uniform, wait for all PAX to de-plane before they de-plane. I think it is a nice sign of respect for the paying PAX.

Once on UA, I was told F was full, only to find out most of it was crew commuting. Not good from a PAX point of view.

Again that would be a good subject for the Roachfest,

SingleFlyer,

"DL in particular, the crew that is traveling in uniform, wait for all PAX to de-plane"

You're right - the folks paying should go first (unless the deadheading crew is arriving late to take another flight out, maybe)

"only to find out most of it was crew commuting."

Agreed again - at least here you should never see that happen. Deadheading crews are assigned seats in coach, jumpseating pilots and f/a's can sit in F/C if there are seats open.

i am never in favor of abbrogating any of the union's contract even though the union sold us down the river at stations like mine. but if the mgmt gave up everything of theirs pertaining to the f/c riding and took heavy paycuts then may be usair would be in a lot better shape. just look at how american handled their union-mgmt relationship after carty left

It seems to me there's been an awful lot of over-sales resulting in denied boarding compensation or payments for volunteers. Does anyone have the figures, including the cost, for the last two months?

And where in the accounting do those costs go? "Other"?

Again, I ask anyone who thinks our CSR's or RES folks are not worth the meager change they now make take a day to sit in the boarding area and watch what goes on. Make it a Thursday or Friday night.

Does management not understand how hard they work under the most trying of circumstances? These are the people who have to deal with the irates who are involuntarily bumped. Or try to reschedule 100's of customers when flights cancel or are oversold. These are the folks who do their level best to help customers who have missed their connections due to late arrivals.

I'm sorry, I just don't understand why management feels the need to hammer the employees who are the "face" of US Airways.

Dea..thanks for the kind words....I just don't think management gets it....It's really sad...try working and keeping customers who were booked on PSA and cancelled 3-4 times on the same reservation..with no explanation other than no crew...can't imagine those ato employees having to try and explain this situation...it makes for a very irrate mob of passengers.
