The full article is below. Interesting comments about FRNT. More than likely they are not expanding due to lack of LF and revenue. FRNT too big too quick = ATA.

Conspicuously missing from DIA's bond offering is any money for Frontier Airlines' expansion on the airport's A concourse. Koniz said Frontier has shelved an earlier-announced plan to add gates on A"

You forgot this part!

Frontier, DIA's second-largest carrier after United, is expected to wait to see if United reduces its Denver operation and pulls back from the A concourse to concentrate its operation on B. If that occurred, Frontier might take over United's A gates.

Waiting to see if UAL self-destructs like USAIR is doing! Why get tied into more if you have a very GOOD chance of acquiring what will SOON be available.

If you'd listen to F9's BOD minutes on the web you'll see that plans for a hangar facility and more A concourse space are still on the table between F9 and the city of Denver. Like they said if you go broke, or move out of Denver they can still stop the construction. And I thought that many months ago it was Denver demanding that the city of Denver start their 83MIL dollar expansion project. Looks like you only get half, smart move on Denver’s part.

There will be value for a regional jet facility regardless of who occupies the airport. DIA was "underbuilt" on gates when it opened; part of the formula for lowering costs for all operators has got to be to increase gate capacity to match the runway capacity at DIA.

Good Point World, if UAL does downsize here to mostly a regional hub then so be it. But no sense in F9 getting tied up in a bond issue with Denver if they can wait and probably get a sweeter deal down the road.

MAGSAU makes it sound like it is ONLY a win/win for UAL. But I'd be surprised to see Denver even start the project till UAL can show them that they aren't wasting their time. They know that F9 isn't wasting their time, and still wants to expand even more in the Denver market. They built us two new gates in less than 3 months and forced UAL to relinquish several that they NEVER used till OCT 2005. I'd say we got a while before we'll be needing any new gate space for now. But, this Continental hangar is getting pretty small for all the Airbus C-CKS we have coming up in the future. That one here in Denver would be PERFECT for airbus C-CKS.

MRFISH...when are you going to shut up??? You and the rest of your little goons over at F9 are going to get crushed soon. UAL ain't pulling out of DIA. What....what's that I hear...someone just flushed the toilet....HAHAHAH!

We'll see there Mr. Boeing, never say never! And we aren't going to be CRUSHED as you put it, not by UniTED. Remember TED is the END of UniTED. What a stupid commercial. I should be the VOICE of TED though. You've been trying that for 10 years, hasn't worked yet now has it????? B)

Fish,

I believe the DIA folks are not worrying about F9 due to the fact that they know they have no other options other than having a hub at DIA. While they realize UAL could move on and make DEN a focus city, F9 does not have the name recognition nor the route network to support DIA in a hub the size of UAL. IMO, DIA wants UAL to stay.

BEG your pardon? No name for a FOCUS city. Frontier is dubbed Denver’s Hometown airline BUBA. We have contracts to carry all the major sports teams (EXCEPT the inept Broncos). All the college sports teams, and sponsor every major event held in the Denver Metro and surrounding area. Now who has no name? And the folks of Denver love us here because we don't gouge the crap out of them for airfares. And we most definitely have much better customer service and support than UAL affords the average PACK here or through Denver. Read the DARE TO COMPARE there BUBA, see what people say about UAL service, it speaks for its self.

And Frontier has a name at DIA for one reason only. This is where the original F9 started and thrived. When the opportunity was right UAL had the buying rights to take over F9 MANY YEARS AGO and balked at the chance. It was bought out by Continental and dismantled under the Lorenzo regime. One thing Continental forgot to do though was to get a copy right on the Frontier name and Logo. The old timers found out and started the RICH HERITAGE of Frontier all over again. We'll always be the TRUE "Spirit Of The West" and as we have shown UniTed over the many years they have tried to kill F9 here in Denver. TODAY, we are "A Whole Different Animal". One that will be here for many happy years to come.

Good luck to you MAG when management is hounding you AGAIN for a chunk of that 1.1 billion in cost savings they are after!

 B) :)

I don't think UAL has ever tried to "crush" F9, as much as some employees would like to try! In the up cycle, no regulators would allow UAL to try and put F9 put of business. And in the down cycle, it ain't gonna happen either. As long as UAL survives there will be no pulling out of DIA.
Continual contrary statements remind of a certain guy on the UsAir board with the years of talk about a "UCT".

"The old timers found out and started the RICH HERITAGE of Frontier all over again."

By the "old timers', do you mean the UAL scab?

"We'll always be the TRUE "Spirit Of The West" and as we have shown UniTed over the many years they have tried to kill F9 here in Denver."

You might want to do a little studying of F9 "history". If you do, you will find that just a few years ago, F9 had less than a month of cash left and went to court to try to get UAL to let them live. UAL backed off.

Bussy,

If you really wanted to spew your venom, you would have mentioned the time that F9 had only 2 days worth of cash before closing down during the West Pack shoot-out. You can say what you want, and your crystal ball is better than everyone elses, but what is indisputable is that Denver loves Frontier.

Mr. Fish,

When I wanted to take my family to Cancun last June, Frontier was my first choice because I perceived them to be a Low Fare carrier. When I checked the fares (four months prior to purchase) I was quoted $1200+ per ticket return, for most of early June. $4800 from Denver to Cancun for my family of four!

I don't know what your definition of gouge is, but that doesn't seem low fare to me.
I ended up going Delta thru Atlanta for $450+.

Frontier is no different from any other airline...they charge high fares when there is no competition. I look forward to seeing TED joining the Denver-Canun market and hopefully some reasonable fares will appear.
