New Terminal D Expansion Now Open

The long anticipated opening of the extension of terminal D opened today. I have not been in but have heard it is really nice.

And operations, in all their splendiferous stupor, CANCELLED the inaugural outbound flight to DFW, sending the plane to Detroit instead . . . empty, and moved the DFW flight elsewhere. It was a wonderful show to all in attendance for this "major event" of AA's total incompetence, not to mention an airport VP who has NO control over his airport, or just plain doesn't give a damn. Thankfully the media wasn't invited.

The concourse looks just like all the others, only new. It won't take the New York crowds long to trash it. It does have the largest security check point in the airport and should be able to accommodate more passengers much quicker.

The upside was, no one had to take that stupid 80 to Dallas!

Is there a terminal map out there anywhere that shows either the new D concourse and/or what the "super-terminal" is supposed to look like once finished?

If you can imagine one long terminal running from the new D-extention to A terminal. Terminals B and C will be demolished. I will try and locate a link.

Well, AA finally added an updated MIA terminal map to their website. You can see it at: http://www.aa.com/content/aboutAA/whereWeF...minal_MIA.jhtml

Good news is that starting on 5/6, AA will only be using 3 gates in the "High E" satellite!

Its also interesting that the first batch of D-gates to be opened (2/4/6/8/10/12) have been renumbered. For the life of me I cant seem to figure out why they would open new gates only to rename them a few months later

These gates are not new at all. They are the old D concourse gates just renumbered to reflect what the gate would be once the entire north terminal is finished.

NOW IF AMR COULD PLEASE FIX THE GATE SHORTAGE PROBLEM AT LAX !! FLIGHTS HAVE WAITED FOR GATES UP TO AN HOUR AT TIMES.

 They could fix the gate problem by using T3 TWA gates......But they gave those away to ATA, Airtran, Spirit, Frontier (for LAX-STL), and Alaska.

Which gates in the E satelite will be AA? Are there Flagship & Admirals lounges at the End of D? Where will the 777 departures fro LHR, EZE & GRU leave from, D?

Apparently an Admiral's Club on D will be opening.
The E Satellite gates that AA claims to plan on using are: E30, E31, E33
Before May 6, they will also use E32, E34, E35.

Well, I know they aren't the newest, but they were recently re-opened (late '03, I believe). And they were numbered 2, 4, 6, 8.... and now have become D31-36. I just dont understand why they didnt bother calling them D31-36 in the first place, but instead gave them 2, 4, 6, 8 numbers, only to change them less than a year later. Not that its an important point - I just wanted to clarify what I meant so I appear slightly less stupid ;)

Ugh. This was a BIG problem after they purchased Reno Air, and before they moved most of those flights to T3. It was so much easier to AA it at LAX after they had the 2 terminals.
