New Attendance program

I think this new policy is going to haunt US AIRWAYS because it should. IMO, this new policy discriminates against Christians since it only has restrictions on Christian holidays. This is shameful. I'm also reasonably sure that a re-valuation medically violates H.I.P.P A laws.

So what about all those that observe the Jewish, Kwanzan, and Pagan faiths? They all have holidays in the same time period. I guess their faiths don't count. And while we're on that subject, should I be offended for being restricted because of actions of the religious faithful during their holiday period? I'm sorry, but religious freedom is a poor curtain to hide behind on this one. These periods were chosen because history shows an increased frequency of absences then. Half of the people that call in on Christmas probably don't even give a damn what it means. They want to be there with their family to see the kids open presents. This policy does have huge issues with it, but please don't ignorantly drag religion into it.

We should be focusing on the substantial change in terms of contract, the legal questions that have been raised, the retroactive discipline, and the fact that this policy is only needed to to the ineffectiveness and incompetance of Management.

I read the new attendance policy today. I was wonder if any one out there got a chance to see it.
It is has a point system I do not have it front of me now I left it at work but here are a few things.
late 0 to 15 minutes .5
15 to 120 1.0
It you call in sick for yourself it's 1.0
If you call for other than your self ie..children or sick parent 2.0
If you call in on the holidays or if they see a pattern they will request a Dr.'s not if you don't supply one you go unpaid.(they also have listed the dates that meet this)
So guess you better hope you don't get sick during two holidays.
levels are only 12 months but if you are out for any length of time like a furlough or oji that time does not count they add that time when you come back.

HERE IS MY PROBLEM...WHERE IS MY UNION

If I get stuck on a employee bus not only do I docked the pay now I get a point

Here is the question of the day

If i get mandatory do I get a point back?

I disagree. I think it is a very valid point. All the holidays included in this policy are christian holidays.

I don't see anything about calling in sick on Yom Kippur, or Ramadan.

Thank goodness they left off St. Patrick's Day.

In my opinion Tim is on the mark when he says that this is an
attempt by the company to get increased productivity without having
to pay for it.

Southwest has a policy during the probationary period (6 mos) that
3 lates and your out. No if's and or buts .
Imagine US trying that. If they made it retro-active to 3 years ago we
would have a grand total of about 10 people still working here from
that time.

Why don't we have a policy like that? Because it wouldn't work. There
is not enough incentive. Pay and a respectful sick policy are just two
possible incentives.

Why haven't they been enforcing the current sick policy. Because they
can't. They found it be uninforcable given their managment skills and
the quality of workforce that they chose to hire.

So now they are making an what is either a desparate, ingorant or
arrogant stab at their productivity problem. So here is what I consider
to be a fair remedy:

1. Back pay and reinstatement for any one fired under this system.
(tim's idea)

2. Full sick pay for everyone east and west back one year from date
of implimentation.

I don't think it would even be acceptable even if they dropped this and
went back to any kind of enforcement of the old rules. They never
really had the ability or power to do that. So what do you think an
arbitrator will deem is the "Status Quo" of the old system?
I also completely dissagree with any "modified" version of the point
system unless the compony is willing to open formal negotiations.

Thanks BF

so email the CWA Boss VH. I'm not sure if it's true that she looked the other way after the company gave her one more occurance on step 2 and dropped the 18 months to 12 months.

the CWA bosss????? She looked out for her RES group and that was it...on one point----lowring the 18 month to 12months....whoo hoo you go boss girl....we need to have a rally to get rid of her...she is not the CWA boss....

Either she, or the CWA has to go. It's high time that we're being represented properly.

How many times have you seen someone call in for Ramadan? None, except for maybe the occasional smartass. The Company is NOT doing this to discriminate against someone because of their religion. It's a simple fact that people will call in around the holidays. It's got nothing to do with religious preference except to those who want another reason to complain. You don't need any more reasons; there are plenty without this one.

Also note that the Company is not obligated to observe your First Ammendment rights. I agree that the Union should attempt to protect them when reasonable, but there is no law that protects them outside of discrimination.

nec, your missing the point, no matter who you are during certain holiday periods defined by the comapny you will be docked 2 points. It just so happens most of that time is christian holidays. Its apparen that if you call in around Ramadan for example you wont be docked two points why is that? The "west" contract in some areas is still inplace til the end of the year. This violates the religion of many employees. I understand that you are not in favor of the new policy but you also need to hold the compay accountable to their own standards.

I have a real hard time digesting the fact that within the last year the company has said to you, over the years ( thru our Personnal Policy Guide ), that these are the perameters that are acceptable to them concerning, sick, late time. etc. The result of so-call abuse was consultations, warnings, and C.A.D.s and Levels.

Now, even before Dec 1, they are using their future PPG for discipline in regards to last years sick/late/etc occurrences. Converting one PPG to another PPG and changing the perameters, without being forwarned, is a disservice to its Employees and "Disrespect" to each employee and their Union.

Their is not a doubt in my mind that stations that don't have time clocks and Workbrain are not under the same scrutiny as those with time clocks. We never had time clocks and they couldn't manage the situation. WHY IS THAT OUR PROBLEM AND PENALTY?

If You demand we get a Doctors note each occurrence and still give us points then you should at least "Pay Our Deductible".

To be continued .................

Good luck getting a doctors note on thanksgiving or the day after ...well let's see if the company wants you to bring one back looks like the first appointment

won't be until thursday of next week so the company loses your service a WHOLE another week WAITING for a doctors note.. GEEZ that's real productive

It's been a month since these new union leaders got in so has any members seen the new leaders written position on the attendance control? I know there has been talk but if anyone has seen anything on print then please share it. The IAM website looks like it has shut down and has not been updated for quite a while.

In short response to Janitor, yes a letter will be out soon. The website is currently doing a massive overhal and should be up and running like a well oiled machinel soon.

Today in BOS Mgmt was calling in people all day. If you had 4 Occurrences you got a initial and so on.....They were going back from your last Occurrence 12 months even if the last Occurrence was over 30 days ago. The response we received was to bad you can grieve it. I noticed that some were being called in first because they had a sick call dated 11/15/07 falling off the record tomorrow so it was at the top of the list.

It is unimaginable that after all that has gone on in the last year with the triple play on time performance, baggage, customer service last I checked we were not at the bottom anymore.
They are shoving this in our faces people are going to lose their JOBS ...they have families kids ,mouths to feed.

SO IN RETURN FOR ALL OUR HARD WORK WE GET THIS. I TRY TO SMILE AT WORK BUT AFTER TODAY IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE I AM TOTAL DISGUST WITH THIS COMPANY.

IT IS TIME TO JUST DO YOUR JOB NO MORE NO LESS DONT GO OUT YOUR WAY GO AT A SAFE SPEED MAKE SURE YOU ARE ALWAYS SAFE.

IT IS A SAD DAY INDEED
