KATHMANDU (Reuters) - Officials at Nepal's state-run airline have sacrificed two goats to appease Akash Bhairab, the Hindu sky god, following technical problems with one of its Boeing 757 aircraft, the carrier said Tuesday.

Nepal Airlines, which has two Boeing aircraft, has had to suspend some services in recent weeks due the problem.

The goats were sacrificed in front of the troublesome aircraft Sunday at Nepal's only international airport in Kathmandu in accordance with Hindu traditions, an official said.

"The snag in the plane has now been fixed and the aircraft has resumed its flights," said Raju K.C., a senior airline official, without explaining what the problem had been.

Local media last week blamed the company's woes on an electrical fault. The carrier runs international flights to five cities in Asia.

It is common in Nepal to sacrifice animals like goats and buffaloes to appease different Hindu deities.

Is that how that works? I wonder if they would come over and sacrifice some dead weight management to get some of our junk aircraft going? I'll have to turn that in as a cost saving suggestion.

So Boeings are so badly designed that you have to sacrifice goats to get them going. I wonder where they are going to put the sacrificial altar at AFW?

"Just curious, but where is our good ol' buddy Compton these days anyway?"

I am sure it can not show his face around very many of the TWA people.

Here is a large list/photos of creatures that should be sacrificed.

None of those are as bad as Carty and Compton

So were the goats sacrificed to the fan blade gods?

I actually worked on a couple of Air Nepal 757's a few years back. The aircraft at the time were only two years old and they were having their second "C" check. When it came to inspecting the floorbeams underneath the mid-cabin lavs, they were found to be completely corroded through, so the lavs all had to ripped out and 3 whole floorbeams on each aircraft had to be replaced. After 10-15 years floorbeam repairs or replacements under lavs and galleys become a normal thing on most 757's, but not after two !! So anyway it turns out that the Nepalese maintenance representative said that they had real problems with the passengers in that a lot of them had never seen a toilet before, so they would lock themselves into the lav and just pee all over the floor without lifting the seat.... Urine is extremely corrosive to aluminium alloy !

.... Urine is extremely corrosive to aluminium alloy !

I used to know a maint engineer at Flying Tigers, and he said they monitored what animals had been shipped on what airplanes and how far. The matched that information to a chart rating the relative corrosion properties and quantities of different animal urine. This information was used to determine when to pull up the floor to treat corrosion or replace metal.
