Two simple and easy marketing ideas that are CHEAP TO IMPLEMENT
I. The Gay and Lesbian Market
In the past several years mainstream businesses have been catering to the gay and lesbian market.
Gays and lesbians
1) Like to Travel
2) Travel frequently to Pride events all over the country - the major of which are serviced by USAir in Miami, San Francisco, New York, Atlanta and Toronto
3) Mainstream businesses now cater to this community because these folks have higher disposable incomes. This is a proven marketing statistic and fact. Even Coors Beer has rushed to change their image.
Unforturtunately these events have DELTA and Continental logos everywhere. NO Usair logo.
II. The Mountain Bikers
USAir flies to many markets that are great mountain biking communities and when you toss in the United Codeshare the markets are in the dozens. Asheville, Toronto, Van Couver, Colorado Springs, Denver, San Diego
Yet USAir - long with other carriers - charges bikers $80 one way for a bike. I know that this is typical but I'm not sure about the Low Cost Carriers.
Several years ago I emailed USAir marketing for a cheapo idea - publish coupons in mountain biking magazines saying to fly with your mountain bike for FREE. I received a response from someone I had forgotten that this is a great idea and that they would do it. They never did...
With the Volkswagen/Trek team came a very successful partnership. With the exposure of Lance Armstrong (which is a different type of biking but biking nevertheless) USAir could easily ally themselves with a promo on OLN and/or bikin magazines.
I believe that these are simple and cheap marketing strategies that would give USair exposure to some folks who would become good repeat customers.
