OK so what would happen to their revenue stream if prohibition of the sale and used were legal in their largest market? Think it would shrink to maybe 15% of what it is now. If, like when alcohol prohibition was lifted the violent crime rate dropped over 40% here. Not even mentioning the amount of revenue the Feds could raise with this new revenue stream not to mention more jobs producing the final LEGAL product and the subsequent taxes those workers would pay?

Remember more people die in one year from alcohol related accidents then the number of heroin overdoses since records have been kept.

I hear ya! They fought the "War on Poverty" where I grew up. My Mom went down to this office and asked is it true you're fighting the war on Poverty? The guy answered "Yes we are". My Mom said, "Well I'd like to surrender then, you are taking prisoners correct"

The war on Drugs is going about as bad.

Point of the OP is that our ‘presence’ in Afghanistan isn’t doing squat. The microsecond we leave, the Taliban will regain control because the people are still living in the 16th century and have no plans to change. It would take world wide intervention, police, education and cash for a couple of decades to bring them up to the 19th century.

That’s not going to happen either.

We will win the war on drugs about the same time we close our boarders and kick all illegal immigrants out.

The prohibition of drugs in the country is a money maker for the gooberment infrastructure.
Mandated by the irrational.
Kickbacks, DEA, etc… just like the alcohol prohibition.

What would the Merican/Mexican cartels do if we grew local drugs, regulated pot and coke alone?
IMHO, they would shrivel up and die.

Funny that bus drivers, hamburger flippers, etc… are drug tested but the politicians and captains of industry are not.
