I remember reading here before that LOT was apparently going to begin to fly to MIA sometime in 2004. Is this still planned despite them joining Star Alliance? In addition, what other airlines may soon be popping up at MIA (apparently EI met with MIA officials recently-no further news though)?

Finnair starts MIA on 23 October; El Al starts thier own service on 25 October (replaces the current North American sub-service). MIA will become a US-Poland gateway effectibe 1 January 2004. LOT, which has always been considering MIA, may or may not consider adding service in the future. However, LOT being Star Alliance would not hurt the chances at all, since MIA is a Star Alliance hub. In fact, the whole new South Terminal project is Star Alliance-exclusive.

Aer Lingus wants to add Miami and San Francisco, that's no secret. They are having a hard time because to make MIA and SFO Ireland-USA gateways, the US government reportedly wants the SNN/DUB 50-50 rule to be dropped.

As for other airlines. Do not rule out SAS and bmi and the returns of Austrian, Aeroflot, SAA, and Turkish in the next 2-4 years.
